The reading and wellness prizes you helped fund have brought so much enthusiasm and motivation to our students. We've been able to use the stress balls, cozy blankets, fidget pens, book lights, and more as part of our schoolwide reading challenges. These incentives have helped students feel celebrated for reading.\r\n\r\nWhen our students first saw our reading rewards prize cart, their faces lit up with excitement. Even students who don't typically see themselves as \"readers\" have started participating in our reading contests and tracking their time spent reading. One student even said, \"It feels like our library got a glow-up!\" Others were thrilled to discover titles from the Lincoln Award list. Students are spending more time browsing, discussing books with friends, and checking out titles that reflect their identities, interests, and aspirations. The new books have also been instrumental in supplementing our freshmen biography project, where students select and research influential individuals. With the updated collection, students were able to find more current, relevant biographies.\r\n\r\nYour contributions have not only expanded our collection but also strengthened our students' enthusiasm for reading and learning. Students and staff have been using the space daily for various reasons. Teachers have brought classes to use the space, and students visit on their own or with friends before, during, and after school. Sometimes, students are there because they feel very calm and comfortable in such a peaceful area. Other times, staff bring students to the Zen Zone (renamed Hygge Hall by staff and student input), because they're dealing with heavy, negative emotions and experiences. We've had students use the fidgets to decrease their anxiety, as well as students simply sit and breathe while they process a stressful event. This chance for students and staff to have a safe, cozy, quiet place to meditate, take a brain break, practice mindfulness, and relax has been extremely valuable.
