Any time a student is returning or checking out a library book they have access to the Calm Strip. We are now able to refill ice packs from the school nurse without having to send students back to get more ice for their minor injuries. This is another way we minimize disruptions to learning! An unexpected side effect of having the ice. maker is that it is playing an integral role in our aquarium tank maintenance for our school axolotl. Your generosity has enabled us to purchase an axolotl tank, chiller, filter and lots of other necessities for our axolotl. It took a while (8 weeks) for our tank to cycle, but our pinkaxolotl, Skittles, is finally in her tank, which is located in the display case of our library. \r\n\r\n\r\nWe have had \"alotl\" fun and learned so much about these fascinating creatures. The librarian, Ms. Jeremiah, has created a welcoming axolotl viewing and learning area next to the tank. She wrote her own Donors Choose grant for axolotl books, stickers and stuffed animals. This is a welcoming space where students can read about, research and just enjoy watching our axolotl. \r\n\r\nA community member, Ms. Shanda, worked with us to teach us how to care for our axolotl. She also came to our science night and brought several different \"morphs' (colors) for the students to see. \r\n\r\nSome of the students have created posters and brochures about axolotls. Others enjoy drawing pictures of axolotls to decorate the area around the tank. We also have some students who assist with taking care of our axolotl. \r\n\r\nYour donation has given our students first hand experience with an animal that fascinates them.
