We are already digging into these fabulous resources to help us with reading and vocabulary skills. \r\n\r\nI just uploaded a few pictures of how we are using Flocabulary. Each week, we do one of the Flocabulary VOCAB units. The students are given 10 words that are commonly-used words for 4th graders. We watch a video with a song that uses all 10 of the week's words in a catchy way. The kids LOVE these songs and they easily get \"stuck\" in brains! Throughout the week, we use the words in activities that Flocabulary provides on their site. We are making a word wall in our classroom of all the vocab words we have learned this year. I love when they'll notice one of our words in a book we are reading. Even better is when THEY choose to use these words in their own writing! We just love Flocabulary and it is definitely building vocabulary with my students!\r\n\r\nAs for Storyworks, this is ALWAYS a favorite resource! Currently, we are studying 9/11. This week we are reading a nonfiction piece on our digital Storyworks magazine that teaches us all about the boat rescue that happened in the NYC harbor. Last week we were studying Hurricane Katrina, and Storyworks had a great fiction story about a girl who was caught in a hurricane. We were able to read this text and compare it to what we had been learning about Katrina. With this magazine subscription, we have access to so many different genres of text to incorporate into our units of study.\r\n\r\nThank you again so much for providing us with these great resources! I am really big on letting the kids move around the room to work when they are working with a partner, in a small group, or just on assignments that are not tests. Some prefer to stay in their seats at the desks, but so many of them want to get out of their seat for a bit and move around. They LOVE having two different areas on the floor where they can spread out on a soft surface and do their work there. The rugs are soft and cozy. They are perfect for giving us places for partners and groups to work. The larger rug is big enough to allow the entire class to sit together for mini-lessons, reading our novel, or gathering for discussions.
