Every year, my goal is to give students access to the kinds of tools and experiences that will prepare them for a rapidly changing, tech-driven world. However, in a smaller school setting, we often have to make difficult choices about where our funds go. Textbooks, classroom supplies, and core resources always come first, which means that technology—though essential—sometimes has to wait.\r\n\r\nThat's why your generosity means so much to me and to my students. Having the opportunity to introduce them to different operating systems, editing software, and creative platforms is truly transformative. Many of my students come into class with limited exposure to technology beyond their phones or tablets. Being able to guide them through real-world applications—like photo and video editing, word processing, and digital presentation tools—opens doors to skills they'll use for the rest of their lives.\r\n\r\nIt's not just about learning how to click the right buttons; it's about giving them the confidence to explore, problem-solve, and express themselves in new ways. Technology can turn an ordinary lesson into something that feels relevant, engaging, and empowering. For example, when my students work on multimedia projects, they're not only learning about the subject matter—weaving together writing, art, and research—but also building collaboration and communication skills that are vital in any field.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has made this possible. The resources you've helped provide allow me to create lessons that reflect the world my students are growing up in—a world where digital literacy is as essential as reading and math. Instead of feeling left behind or limited by what we don't have, my students can now experience the excitement of discovery and creativity that comes with having access to the right tools.\r\n\r\nI've already seen how these new opportunities have sparked curiosity and confidence in my classroom. Students who were once hesitant to try something new are now volunteering to teach their peers how to edit a video, format a slideshow, or troubleshoot a software issue. They're not just learning from me—they're learning from each other, which is exactly the kind of collaborative, hands-on environment I've always hoped to foster.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make that possible. Your support doesn't just provide equipment—it provides inspiration. It tells my students that people beyond our school walls believe in their potential and want to see them succeed. For many of them, that message is just as important as the tools themselves.\r\n\r\nI truly can't thank you enough for your generosity, your investment in education, and your belief in the power of opportunity. Because of you, my students are not only learning how to use technology, but also how to imagine, create, and build futures they might not have thought possible.\r\n\r\nThank you so much!","fullyFundedDate":1746787356567,"projectUrl":"project/technology-for-small-group-instruction/9320510/","projectTitle":"Technology for Small Group Instruction","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Fiedler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9293936"},{"teacherId":9296633,"projectId":8567610,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the supplies for hands on learning for history! Because of your generosity, my junior high students were able to engage in meaningful, collaborative learning experiences centered around powerful literature and critical social-emotional development. Your gift provided not only the tools and materials we needed—flexible seating and vibrant art supplies—but also the opportunity for students to rebuild essential interpersonal skills and explore the deeper themes of community, empathy, and identity.\r\n\r\nThis year, our class read The Giver and Freak the Mighty, two novels that sparked rich, emotional conversations and powerful connections. Many of my students experienced learning loss—not only academically, but socially—during the years of virtual instruction brought on by the pandemic. For some, this year was the first time they'd engaged in face-to-face academic discussions or group projects since elementary school. Relearning how to communicate, collaborate, and respect diverse viewpoints has been a central part of our classroom goals.\r\n\r\nPerhaps most impactful were the conversations that emerged from our reading. When Jonas in The Giver grappled with the weight of choice and memory, students drew parallels to their own experiences of isolation and re-entry into social life. When Max and Kevin in Freak the Mighty built an unlikely friendship, students shared stories of the people who've supported them through hard times. These books—and the collaborative structures you helped us put in place—allowed students to open up in ways I hadn't seen before. They weren't just reading; they were making sense of the world and of themselves.","fullyFundedDate":1723690399782,"projectUrl":"project/reading-groups-for-social-interaction/8573559/","projectTitle":"Reading Groups for Social Interaction","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Fiedler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9293936"},{"teacherId":9293936,"projectId":8649542,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your incredible gift of a class set of The Giver. Because of your generosity, each of my students had the opportunity to hold their own copy of this powerful novel, read it together as a community, and explore a world that was both unsettling and thought-provoking. It is no exaggeration to say that this book changed the way many of my students view reading—and the world around them.\r\n\r\nBefore we began our novel study, only a handful of students had ever heard of The Giver, and even fewer had explored dystopian literature. But once we started reading, something amazing happened. Students who had previously been hesitant to read independently were suddenly eager to dive into the text. They begged to read just one more chapter, stayed after class to discuss their theories about the ending, and came to class brimming with questions about the choices Jonas made and the society he lived in. They were hooked—not just on the story, but on the power of literature to make them think deeply.\r\n\r\nOur class discussions were some of the most thoughtful and passionate we've had all year. Students grappled with big ideas like freedom vs. safety, individuality vs. conformity, and the role of memory in shaping identity. The book sparked genuine debate and encouraged students to consider different perspectives. Many expressed shock at the idea of a society without color, music, or emotion, and they began to reflect on what it means to truly live fully and freely.\r\n\r\nPerhaps most exciting of all was the ripple effect The Giver had on my students' reading habits. After we finished the novel, students were clamoring for more. They wanted to read the companion books in Lois Lowry's series, and many asked for recommendations for similar dystopian stories. Titles like The Hunger Games, Among the Hidden, and The City of Ember quickly flew off our classroom shelves. Several students even formed a small book club during lunch to read more dystopian novels together and discuss the connections they found between fiction and real-world issues.\r\n\r\nThis kind of enthusiasm—where students are choosing to read, talk about books, and connect literature to their lives—is the dream of every teacher. And it would not have been possible without your support. Providing a class set ensured that every student had equal access to the text, regardless of their background or resources. It created a sense of shared experience and community that elevated the entire unit.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the power of books and in the potential of young readers. Your generosity lit a spark in my classroom that is still burning strong. I am deeply grateful for your support—and so are my students, who now see reading not just as an assignment, but as a gateway to new worlds and ideas.\r\n\r\nWith heartfelt thanks,","fullyFundedDate":1723666658502,"projectUrl":"project/give-my-students-the-giver/8649542/","projectTitle":"Give My Students The Giver","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Fiedler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9293936"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_127615","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":538,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":31,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":49,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":25,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":127615,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pioneer Technolgy & Arts Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pioneer Technolgy & Arts Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/falcon-school-district-49/pioneer-technology-arts-academy-colorado-springs/127615"}
