The students were very excited to see it set up in the classroom. In the short months that we have had the keyboard, we have seen growth and curiosity of music exploration. Regularly, students ask to share pieces of music that they are learning or have written. They are excited to have this avenue to express their music.\r\n\r\nEvery week, we celebrate Theory Thursday where the keyboard has provided a visual and hands-on element in learning new concepts. When learning about half and whole steps, students were able interact with keyboard to make a sounds and share their understanding of the concepts, instead of just writing answers on a sheet of paper. They were able to make connections by seeing and hearing why the theory works. Soon, the students will learn about building scales and melody writing, in which the keyboard will be a valuable tool.\r\n\r\nIn January, my students started a jazz band, in which they are able to perform genres of music that are not typically studied during a traditional band class. There were so many students interested that I had to be creative to find ways for all the students who signed up were able to participate.
