Since receiving our supplies (made possible because of your generous donation), I can honestly say that it's the first time in 3 years that I have not had a single interruption to instruction due to a student not having what they needed! \r\n\r\nI knew the supplies would increase instructional time and performance but what I didn't anticipate was how having the pencil pouches clipped in the binders would ensure students got to their seats much faster! Last year, it took some classes up to 4 minutes to get all their materials and get to their seat because they were constantly rummaging through their backpacks to find pencils, paper, music etc. This year, even my beginner boys are ready for class within 30 seconds of the bell ringing! This has saved me so much frustration and stress and has surprisingly resulted in me having a lot more positive energy with which to teach! I never realized how much time I spent fussing at students to get organized, and make sure they had what they needed for class and how that fussing negatively impacted my teaching. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for this special gift. The students and I built the pen, and with the help of parents, we reinforced it to make it as predator-proof as possible. Students were thrilled to have another animal pen on campus and excited for what this year holds. This pen allows us to have goats on campus for this upcoming school year. \r\nWe picked up our goats this past weekend, and the students are beyond thrilled to have them to work with and learn from. Because goats are herd animals, we had to get two. They are both settling in their new home nicely. They seem to like their new home. \r\nWith these two animals, students will learn how ruminant animal care is different from the care of our rabbits, chickens, ducks, and turkeys. Students will also learn how to properly trim and care for hooves and properly groom the goat hair. \r\nStudents will be showing these goats at the Central Florida Fair in March, and we hope to be able to take them to several shows throughout the year. We have already used the cages for a Fall Festival event, a practice showmanship event, and will be using them to help us transport our birds to the Central Florida Fair. We are still in the process of building our new poultry coop and the entire left wall will be lined with the cages allowing us to have more housing for our ever-expanding poultry program.\r\nWe currently have 37 birds on our campus, 11 ducks, and 26 chickens, representing 10 different breeds. We have two varieties of Rhode Island Red, New Hampshire Rock, White Rock, Silkies, Old English Game, Amberlink, and California White chickens. We have Call, Rouen, and Runner ducks. There are more in our incubator that are getting ready to hatch out. Some of these birds will be sold. Others will be kept to create breeding lines. We are currently only one of two breed of Rose Comb Rhode Island Reds in the State of Florida.\r\nMy students are gaining knowledge of poultry life cycles. They learn how fragile eggs are and how difficult they can be to incubate.
