Third-grade students are naturally curious and energetic, and because of your kindness, my students now have access to materials that honor how they learn best, through movement, hands-on exploration, collaboration, and meaningful stories. These resources have helped create a classroom environment where every learner feels supported, engaged, and excited to participate.\r\n\r\nDuring our Earth science unit, students were especially excited to create their own fossils using plaster. This hands-on experience allowed them to explore Earth's history in a concrete and memorable way while learning how scientists study the past through observation and preservation. Making fossils sparked rich discussions, thoughtful questions, and genuine wonder as students connected science concepts to real-world discoveries. The chart paper and markers have also become essential tools for learning, giving students space to record predictions, organize ideas, and visually share their thinking as a group.\r\n\r\nThe wobble seat has made a meaningful difference for students who need movement to focus. It has helped students regulate their bodies while staying engaged in lessons, increasing both confidence and participation. In addition, the Native American read-aloud has allowed us to honor Indigenous voices while connecting storytelling to science and social studies. Together, these materials have helped create an inclusive, joyful classroom where students feel empowered to explore, express themselves, and connect learning across subjects. Thank you for helping my students dig deeper—both literally and figuratively—as they grow into curious, confident learners.","fullyFundedDate":1748482513722,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-histories-learning-through-fos/9380411/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Histories: Learning Through Fossils and Native Voices","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Felix","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9999121_orig.jpg?crop=1945,1945,x0,y144&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1745259410860","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9999121"},{"teacherId":9999121,"projectId":9380159,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous support of our classroom project focused on connecting science, culture, and creativity through Native American innovations. Because of your kindness, my third-grade students are now experiencing STEM learning in a way that is hands-on, meaningful, and deeply connected to real-world knowledge and history. Your support has helped bring lessons to life that honor the scientific contributions of Native American communities while engaging students in active exploration and problem-solving.\r\n\r\nThrough this project, students are learning that science and technology are not new ideas, but practices that have been used for generations. By building models, conducting experiments, and exploring sustainable engineering, agricultural techniques, and environmental science, students are strengthening their understanding of core STEM concepts. They are also learning how Native American communities used innovation and careful observation to live in balance with the environment, an idea that has sparked thoughtful discussions and curiosity among my students.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is the opportunity to learn by doing. Hands-on building projects and investigations have especially motivated students who learn best through movement and collaboration. Many students who previously struggled to connect with science lessons are now eager to participate, ask questions, and share their thinking. This project has helped students see science as inclusive, creative, and connected to people and cultures, not just textbooks. Because of your generosity, my students now have access to technology that has transformed how they learn, communicate, and express their ideas. Podcasting has given my third graders a meaningful and engaging way to practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills while building confidence and collaboration in the classroom.\r\n\r\nMany of my students are familiar with technology at home, but using it for learning has been a powerful shift. Through podcasting, students are learning how to plan, organize, and clearly communicate their thinking. They write scripts, practice fluency, revise their work, and listen critically to their recordings. This process has strengthened their academic language, comprehension, and confidence—especially for students who are English learners or who may struggle to participate in traditional whole-class discussions.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is hearing their own voices and knowing their work has a real purpose and audience. Some of my quieter students, who are often hesitant to speak in front of the class, have truly thrived with this technology. Podcasting has given them a safe space to rehearse, reflect, and share their ideas proudly. Because of you, my students feel empowered, motivated, and excited to learn every day.
