Because of your support, a small idea turned into a transformative opportunity for dozens of students who often struggle to feel confident or capable in the world of numbers.\r\n\r\nYour donations provided me with a set of educational board games and nourishing snacks, which became the foundation for a weekly math enrichment program designed to strengthen problem-solving and teamwork skills. Board games encourage students to engage with math in a hands-on, low-stress environment where they could experiment, talk through strategies, and build confidence together.\r\n\r\nFor many of my students, math class is a source of anxiety and frustration. Some have fallen behind due to learning gaps, language barriers, or simply a lack of access to consistent support outside of school. Traditional approaches to remediation often lead to more disengagement. But through this project, we reimagined math as something to be played, discussed, and shared—not feared.\r\n\r\nThe snacks played a surprisingly important role. Providing a small treat gave students something to look forward to and helped us build a sense of community. It also allowed us to welcome students who might otherwise opt out due to hunger, stress, or low energy. Many of our students face challenges outside the classroom, and these moments of comfort and connection helped create a safe space for learning.\r\n\r\nEvery week, I watched as previously hesitant students leaned into the fun of gameplay, collaborating with classmates, debating rules and strategies, and—without even realizing it—doing math. One student, who had once shut down when asked to show her work on a worksheet, eagerly explained her reasoning during a game of Math Dice. Another student, often isolated due to social anxiety, found his voice helping teammates solve logic puzzles. These are victories that ripple far beyond the game table.\r\n\r\nThis project wasn't just about improving test scores—it was about changing relationships with learning, building peer connections, and fostering joy in problem-solving. We saw significant growth in student confidence, perseverance, and willingness to try challenging tasks. The classroom felt more connected, inclusive, and energized.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our students now believe that math can be fun, that learning can happen in many forms, and that they are capable of tackling tough problems with creativity and teamwork. You've given them more than just supplies—you've given them a new mindset.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students. Thank you for recognizing the power of playful learning. And thank you for helping us make math a space where all students feel they belong.","fullyFundedDate":1731540764292,"projectUrl":"project/middle-school-mental-health-bundle/8916789/","projectTitle":"Middle School Mental Health Bundle","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Speichinger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9824598_orig.jpg?crop=1864,1864,x32,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753239956713","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9824598"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_10350","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":823,"numTeachers":71,"percentFrplEligible":63,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":59,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":80.0,"schoolId":10350,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pflugerville Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pflugerville Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/pflugerville-independent-school-district/pflugerville-middle-school/10350"}
