Because our campus is a dual language school, this addition has allowed all of our students to participate in meaningful discussions, regardless of their language of instruction. Every student now has access to the same story, which has strengthened our classroom community and built bridges between our English and Spanish readers.\r\n\r\nIn addition to the novels, the flexible seating options you provided have transformed our reading time. Students love finding their cozy spots around the room — from beanbag chairs to soft floor cushions — and they are reading for longer stretches of time with deeper focus. Reading now feels less like an assignment and more like a personal adventure.\r\n\r\nThrough The One and Only Ivan, students have learned about empathy, courage, and friendship while also developing key literacy skills such as identifying theme, character traits, and author's purpose. We've also explored cross-language vocabulary connections and discussed how the author's word choice impacts tone and mood in both languages.\r\n\r\nSome of our most reluctant readers have truly come alive during this unit. One student shared that she looks forward to reading every day now because \"it feels like Ivan is talking right to me.\" Another student who previously struggled with comprehension has become a discussion leader, helping his peers make text-to-self and text-to-world connections.\r\n\r\nYour support has made reading a joyful, inclusive, and shared experience in our classroom. My students were very excited when the hammock chair, rug, and cushions were delivered to our classroom!\r\nThe hammock chair is a special place to sit when each student met their AR goal. This is a great reward for achieving their goal. It gives them a comfortable spot to relax and reflect on their hard work. It also provides incentive for others to meet their goal. The rug is a great addition to our library area and a comfortable place to read a book. The cushions are moveable around the room so students can relax and read. \r\nIt's amazing how the physical environment can have such a positive impact on their learning. I am a teacher mom I have two children of my own who I am constantly reaching out to their own teachers to see how I can support their classrooms. This year I realized that in my attempts to make their classrooms the best I had neglected my own classroom. At my title 1 school we are given a budget of 0$ to set up our classrooms. This makes it very difficult for parents like myself who have to buy supplies for our own children. There are coworkers at my school who receive classroom donations from classroom moms yet in my bilingual classroom most of my students receive free and reduced lunch therefore I know asking parents for donations also puts families in a difficult position. Thank you for helping me provide valuable resources to my students they may otherwise never have the opportunity to have.","fullyFundedDate":1731944938312,"projectUrl":"project/wendy-quevedo/8942385/","projectTitle":"Wendy Quevedo","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Quevedo Vargas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9835913"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_10349","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":390,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":63,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":17,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":67,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":79.5,"schoolId":10349,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pflugerville Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pflugerville Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/pflugerville-independent-school-district/pflugerville-elementary-school/10349"}
