These materials have already inspired play and meaningful communication within my students. When my students opened up the packages they all reacted, as if we were opening presents on Christmas Day. Immediately, they began playing with the materials in both functional and imaginative ways. I can distinctly recall one of my students immediately grabbing the barn and playing with it for about 30 minutes, while making the noises the animal did! These toys are prompting both social skills and creativity, encouraging my students to grow to their fullest potential. \r\n\r\nTo continue using these materials, I plan on implementing them directly into our play-based learning centers. During these centers, classroom staff will work on targeting specific skills such as, functional communication, turn-taking, following directives, etc. With the support of the schools behavioral therapist, I will work on creating multiple lesson plans to go along with each resource. For example, we can create color matching, number identification, turn taking, communicating \"go,\" etc. when playing with the car and garage set. Furthermore, these materials will be used by my students therapy providers in their sessions, especially speech, to promote meaningful participation.","fullyFundedDate":1769192034742,"projectUrl":"project/the-power-of-play-in-the-classroom/9861840/","projectTitle":"The Power of Play in the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tinsley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10043528_orig.jpg?crop=175,175,x0,y32&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769573880862","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10043528"},{"teacherId":9620025,"projectId":8540574,"letterContent":"From the bottom of my heart, I would like to say thank you for contributing to an enriching experience for my students. The 2024-2025 academic year is quickly wrapping up for my district, although I will continue to provide support to my students year-round. I work directly with students processing their various degrees and layers of complex trauma. It is vital for me to meet them where they are on their journey. \r\n\r\nI primarily attend to the needs of Kindergarten through Fifth graders, but I do also have secondary level students that I provide services too as well. Trauma work can be a very heavy process not only for the children but for myself as well. It doesn't matter what the age of the student is, I have come to realize that discussing difficult experiences requires a particular or special way of approaching certain topics. Fidgets, art, puppets, bibliotherapy, sand, and games provide such a crucial role in helping with communication skills, breaking down barriers with exploration of feelings, and assisting with the development of appropriate social skills.\r\n\r\nThe books placed in my bibliotherapy library collection have aided a soft spot when breaking from participation in trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy and emdr therapy. I cannot thank you enough! I sincerely apologize for the delay in sending my impact letter following the submission of thank you cards. I personally experienced a tremendous amount of grief this year. I was challenged to work through my own grief in real time while helping my students complete their trauma work. On a positive note, watching my students create transformative work with the supplies that were provided, allowed me to witness their magic, and encouraged growth within myself in topics such as grief that were previously foreign to me. \r\n\r\nI truly hope you enjoy the handwritten cards and the poster that we created!
