Over the past two months, students have flocked to the library during recess and class visits. It's truly incredible to see the engagement and love for reading at our school. Kids have a right to incredible titles that reflect the world they live in and help them understand who they are. \r\n\r\nThis week is banned book week and I've been reading The Day the Books Disappeared By Joanna Ho and Caroline Kusin and Illustrated by Dan Santat. It's a fabulous read aloud that celebrates themes of empathy, interconnectedness, and the value of diverse and differing perspectives. \r\n\r\nWe've also been highlighting Latinx stories for Latino Heritage Month (9/15 - 10/15) where students are sharing their own backgrounds. My favorite experience has been when students assertively correct my awful Spanish pronunciation in the Vamos series.","fullyFundedDate":1746735267206,"projectUrl":"project/if-you-build-it-they-will-come/9309020/","projectTitle":"If You Build It, They Will Come!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lola","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9211784_orig.jpg?crop=2072,2072,x0,y400&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1698371917692","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9211784"},{"teacherId":4502537,"projectId":9716573,"letterContent":"We are so grateful for our new small group table! It has already become one of the most important spots in our classroom. We use it every day for reading and math groups, where students can get focused support in a calm and organized space. Having a dedicated area has made it much easier for me to meet with students in small groups and give them the individual attention they need.\r\n\r\nWhen the table first arrived, my students were so excited! They immediately noticed how it made our classroom feel more complete and inviting. Now, it's the place where we gather to read together, work through challenging problems, and celebrate progress. Our classroom aides also use the table to support students with IEPs and small group instruction, giving everyone a comfortable and consistent space to learn and grow.","fullyFundedDate":1758310120869,"projectUrl":"project/small-group-work-for-the-win/9716573/","projectTitle":"Small Group Work for the Win!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Greenberg","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4502537_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y36&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736461423725","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4502537"},{"teacherId":4502537,"projectId":9315048,"letterContent":"When my students first walked into the classroom and saw the new shelves and benches, their faces lit up. Right away, they noticed how much more open and organized our library space felt compared to before. The benches quickly became a favorite spot, not only for reading together, but also as a place to sit during our Morning Meetings and even as a quiet space for students who need a short break when they're feeling overwhelmed. Having these cozy, functional seating options has helped our classroom feel more welcoming and supportive.\r\n\r\nThe new bookshelves have also been a huge improvement. Since they take up less space than our mismatched, bulky ones, our library feels much less crowded, and students can easily find and access the books they want. The organization and neatness have made our library more inviting, and students are spending more time browsing and sharing books with each other. As we continue to grow as readers, these shelves and benches will keep supporting our daily routines and projects, making our classroom a place where students truly want to read, learn, and collaborate.","fullyFundedDate":1746787394883,"projectUrl":"project/cozy-reading-for-engaged-readers/9315048/","projectTitle":"Cozy Reading for Engaged Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Greenberg","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4502537_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y36&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736461423725","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4502537"},{"teacherId":4502537,"projectId":9080708,"letterContent":"I hope this letter finds you well. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to you for your generous support of my DonorsChoose project. Thanks to your kindness, our classroom now has a brand new magnetic whiteboard—and what a difference it has already made! Although we received the whiteboard later in the school year and haven't had the chance to use it throughout the full academic year, its presence in the room has already transformed the way I teach and how students engage with learning.\r\n\r\nFrom the moment it was installed, the whiteboard became a focal point of our classroom. It's not just a surface for writing; it's a platform for interaction, creativity, and collaboration. As a teacher, one of my goals is to create an environment where students feel encouraged to share their thoughts, ask questions, and take pride in their work. The magnetic whiteboard has made that goal much more attainable.\r\n\r\nBeing able to write down ideas freely, on the spot, without worrying about running out of space or visibility, has been incredibly liberating. Whether I'm modeling a math problem, sketching out a concept map, or simply jotting down a student's insightful comment, the whiteboard allows me to do it in real time, with everyone following along. The clarity and size of the board make it easy for all students to see and engage from anywhere in the room.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite features of the board is its magnetic surface. I've started posting student work samples directly on the board so that everyone can see and learn from one another. Highlighting student achievements in this way not only boosts their confidence but also promotes a sense of community in the classroom. It's been amazing to watch how excited the students get when their work is displayed front and center. It communicates to them that their efforts are valuable and worthy of recognition.\r\n\r\nAlthough the school year is nearing its end, I've already begun planning how to make full use of the whiteboard next year. I can't tell you how excited I am about the possibilities it opens up. From interactive lessons where students come up and contribute ideas, to group activities where we track progress visually, to hanging rotating displays of work that celebrate all learners—there is so much potential. Just having this tool in the room has reinvigorated my lesson planning and preparation. It's been truly rewarding to think ahead and build lessons that will fully integrate this resource.\r\n\r\nOften, it's the seemingly small additions—a whiteboard, some markers, a few magnets—that can have the most profound impact on the learning environment. Your contribution has brought both practical functionality and a renewed energy to our classroom. You've made it easier for me to teach, and more importantly, you've made it easier for students to learn.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for believing in teachers, for supporting students, and for helping to create a space where education can thrive. Your generosity has made a real and lasting impact, and I can't wait to share all the exciting ways we'll use the whiteboard in the coming school year.","fullyFundedDate":1745255451206,"projectUrl":"project/magnetic-whiteboard-for-engaging-instruc/9080708/","projectTitle":"Magnetic Whiteboard for Engaging Instruction","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Greenberg","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4502537_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y36&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736461423725","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4502537"},{"teacherId":4502537,"projectId":9045534,"letterContent":"A class set of One Crazy Summer profoundly impacted my students, providing them with an engaging and meaningful connection to literature, history, and their community. This award-winning novel by Rita Williams-Garcia tells the powerful story of three sisters navigating life in Oakland, California, during the Civil Rights Movement. By reading this book together, students improved their literacy skills and gained a deeper understanding of social change, activism, and the rich cultural history of their city. This connection made the learning experience more personal and relevant, fostering a love for reading and a greater appreciation for the world around them.\r\n\r\nMy students were eager to dive into One Crazy Summer, and having a class set of books ensured that every student could fully participate in discussions, activities, and projects related to the novel. This book sparked meaningful conversations about identity, family, and history, inspiring students to think critically about their own experiences and the world they lived in. By supporting this project, donors helped create an enriching learning environment where students felt empowered through literature. These books not only enhanced our curriculum but also ignited a passion for reading and learning that stayed with students for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1736798372380,"projectUrl":"project/oakland-historical-fiction-project/9045534/","projectTitle":"Oakland Historical Fiction Project","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Greenberg","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4502537_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y36&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736461423725","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4502537"},{"teacherId":9211784,"projectId":8824506,"letterContent":"Thank you again for funding my library book project!
