Because of your generosity, my kindergarten students now have access to a Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) library that is already making a meaningful impact on our daily learning and growth.\r\n\r\nMany people love reading books, but teaching young children—especially in a special education setting—requires intentional strategies to help them connect with stories in deeper ways. These new books are helping us introduce and practice essential skills such as identifying emotions, building empathy, problem-solving, and learning how to navigate social situations. Through guided discussions, visuals, and repetition, students are learning to recognize feelings in themselves and others, use appropriate coping strategies, and develop language to express their needs.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is interactive, supportive, and engaging. We don't just read books—we experience them together. During read-alouds, students participate by answering questions, acting out parts of the story, and connecting the characters' experiences to their own lives. We use visuals, sentence stems, and hands-on activities to make the stories accessible to all learners. These books have become an important part of our daily routine, helping to create a safe space where students feel comfortable sharing and learning.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have already formed strong connections with the new books. One student, who often struggles to express frustration, has started pointing to characters in the stories to show how they feel, which has helped reduce behavioral challenges. Another student eagerly asks to reread certain books and is beginning to use new vocabulary from the stories to communicate with peers. Seeing these moments of growth—both big and small—has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nYour support has not only provided us with books, but with tools to help our students build lifelong social and emotional skills. Thank you for believing in our classroom and for helping our students grow into confident, empathetic learners.","fullyFundedDate":1762206908085,"projectUrl":"project/tiny-readers-big-emotions/9706146/","projectTitle":"Tiny Readers, Big Emotions","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fellone","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10254703_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757551222358","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10254703"},{"teacherId":2546504,"projectId":9630024,"letterContent":"Thank you again for your incredible donation. STEAM is such an important part of our student's school day. In this room they explore, imagine and create. They were very excited to see that we had new materials this year to explore. I am always grateful when I am able to add a new center, or activity into our rotation.\r\n\r\nAs you can see from the photos my students have been having a wonderful time using some of our new resources. Kid K'NEX have become a favorite in this room, they love creating different shapes and creatures, and telling stories with them. I enjoy watching the joy on their faces as their characters come to life. \r\n\r\nSensory sand is always something that they have loved a bit more than I have.
