Your contribution has brought an incredible burst of color—not just to our classroom walls, but to the confidence and creativity of every young artist who walks through our door.\r\n\r\nBefore your donation, our watercolor supplies were limited and shared to the point where students often had to wait their turn or compromise on their artistic vision. With the beautiful new paints and high-quality brushes you provided, each student now has the chance to work with materials that respond smoothly to their imagination. The difference was immediate within the first week, I could see students experimenting with blending, layering, and varying brush strokes in ways they simply couldn't before.\r\n\r\nYour support came at the perfect time, as we were beginning our watercolor unit centered around the work of Georgia O'Keeffe. Her paintings, with their delicate transitions of color and their striking compositions, have been the perfect source of inspiration for my students. In the past, it was challenging to fully explore O'Keeffe's techniques because our materials couldn't replicate the kind of subtle color gradients and precision that her style demands. Now, with the vibrant range of watercolors and the smooth control of quality brushes, my students can explore those delicate shifts from deep, saturated tones to whisper-light washes.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful outcomes I've seen is the way students have begun to connect with O'Keeffe's philosophy of looking closely at the world whether it's the center of a flower or the curves of a bone and translating that into their own perspective. We've spent time studying her work up close, talking about how she used scale and focus to help people see the beauty in everyday objects. Thanks to your gift, students could immediately put those lessons into practice. For example, one 7th grader who had never painted before managed to create a stunning close-up of a sunflower that captured the soft, velvety texture of each petal. Another student layered soft blues and purples to portray the shadows in a seashell, amazed at how the paints could mimic nature's subtlety.\r\n\r\nBeyond the technical skills, I've seen a deeper change. The act of working with quality tools gives students a sense of pride and seriousness about their work. They feel like \"real artists,\" and that boost in confidence has made them more willing to take creative risks. They're not afraid to try wet-on-wet washes, experiment with negative space, or mix their own custom colors. Those small leaps of courage in art often ripple out into other areas of learning and self-expression.\r\n\r\nIt's easy to underestimate the difference that a set of paints and brushes can make. But in our classroom, your generosity has opened the door to artistic discovery, skill building, and a newfound love for watercolor painting. I truly believe some of my students will carry this experience forward for years whether they become professional artists or simply individuals who can see beauty and possibility in the world around them.\r\n\r\nFrom myself and all 200 of my art students, thank you for believing in the power of art education. Your gift is more than supplies it's an investment in creativity, confidence, and the ability to see the world with fresh eyes.","fullyFundedDate":1729210512916,"projectUrl":"project/watercoloring-with-georgia-okeefe/8876297/","projectTitle":"Watercoloring With Georgia O’Keefe","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Reynaga","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9307072_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1728874177613","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9307072"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_28937","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":535,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":89,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":89.4,"schoolId":28937,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Paramount Park School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Paramount Park School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/paramount-unified-school-district/paramount-park-school/28937"}
