During this unit, students had the chance to really think about who they are and where they come from. Through reading different stories about culture and identity, they were able to make personal connections to their own lives. They talked about their names, family traditions, and what makes them unique. These discussions helped students recognize that their identity is something to be proud of and that everyone's story matters. Many students began to express more confidence in sharing their backgrounds and experiences with their classmates.\r\n\r\nOne of the books that really stood out was My Name Is María Isabel. Students connected with María Isabel's experience of wanting her name to be respected and understood. It opened up conversations about how our names represent our families, cultures, and histories. Many students shared the meanings or stories behind their own names and felt proud of where they come from. Through this story, and the others we read, students gained a deeper appreciation for their roots and began to see their cultural backgrounds as something to celebrate and honor.","fullyFundedDate":1753982985634,"projectUrl":"project/roots-reflections-a-journey-into-iden/9430750/","projectTitle":"Roots & Reflections: A Journey Into Identity","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Chan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6858023_orig.jpg?crop=1123,1123,x23,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1718985188690","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/l-chan"},{"teacherId":10089908,"projectId":9492712,"letterContent":"We greatly appreciate your kind and thoughtful contribution to our classroom library.
