My students were excited to see the cash box and art supplies that were related to our snack shop and began making signs that day. Within the week, we were set up and able to open our snack shop to begin fundraising money for our farewell party. Ultimately, the signs students made generated publicity, which led to students, parents, and faculty purchasing items. We were able to raise almost $200 over a few weeks, which went towards the students' farewell activity in they gym. My grade level partner and I surprised the students with a large inflatable obstacle course, carnival games, and carnival food to cap off their year with a bang. This was the first end of the year activity the grade level had since before COVID, and the students were so excited to spend the day playing with their friends after working so hard this past year.\r\n\r\nWhen the students saw the decorations in the Amazon boxes, their curiosity was definitely aroused. However, we purposely didn't tell them much, so the first time they saw the balloons and columns was when they entered the gym during their procession to \"Pomp and Circumstance\" on the day of their promotion ceremony. After it was over, multiple students and parents expressed that their fifth grade promotion was the best they had ever seen. We also surprised the students with an end of the year gift of a personalized lanyard (blue for their middle school color) that they could use to keep track of their student IDs next year.\r\n\r\nAs first time fifth grade teachers, we were extremely happy that we were able to provide our students with these memorable experiences. Now, they just need to fold and tape the sides to create three-dimensional shapes such as cubes, pyramids, and cylinders.\r\n\r\nFor our next project, we would like to make textured alphabet cards using the Cricut and glitter sticker paper. If they did not have these technological advances these observations may have been missed the first time around. This ability to record and review multiple times allows them to catch minute details the naked eye would miss, leading to deeper, more accurate conclusions.
