The sensory \"search and find\" letters and numbers have turned practice into an engaging game, encouraging students to stay focused longer while identifying and naming what they find. We also use the playdough letter and number mats to support fine motor development as students roll, pinch, and shape the playdough to form letters and numbers. \r\n\r\n The students were immediately excited and curious. As soon as the materials were introduced, they wanted to touch and explore. Instead of seeing letters and numbers as \"work,\" they viewed them as something fun and inviting.\r\n\r\nNext, we will continue building on letter and number recognition by integrating these sensory tools into early writing and counting activities. Students will begin matching letters to beginning sounds, sequencing numbers, and using the sensory table fillers for sorting and patterning tasks.","fullyFundedDate":1758490396333,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-support-for-special-ed/9703687/","projectTitle":"Sensory Support for Special Ed","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Vannavong","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9736946_orig.jpg?crop=628,628,x458,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758372885558","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9736946"},{"teacherId":10104315,"projectId":9521955,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom library. Color images make these symbols clearer and more meaningful, helping students recognize and use them more successfully. These visuals also support students' vocabulary development by helping them more easily connect pictures with their corresponding words and concepts. Color visuals are also used in a variety of our special classes, such as PK, Modified Curriculum and Intensive Behavior Intervention classes in the form of picture schedules, incentive charts and sentence strips to help them form complete sentences. This gift has truly brought communication to life for our students, and the impact has been felt from Pre-K all the way through 5th grade. Many people use technology every day, but may not realize how powerful it can be in a school setting, especially for students who rely on visual supports to build their communication skills. With access to high-quality color printing, we are now able to create vibrant, engaging, and personalized communication tools that make learning more meaningful and accessible.\r\n\r\nOur students in special programs, in particular, have benefited tremendously. They now have colorful First–Then boards, communication templates for their communication devices, and interactive therapy resources that help bring abstract language concepts to life. The color elements help capture attention, support comprehension, and make each tool feel inviting and fun.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest student favorites has been our \"Feed the Monster\" activity which is a bright, playful language task that has motivated students across multiple grade levels to practice both expressive and receptive language skills. Because we can tailor materials to students' interests, they are far more excited to participate and take ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, our older students (grades 2–5) have greatly benefited from the color-printed anchor visuals displayed on the board. These visuals support vocabulary development and provide clear, consistent cues that help students work more independently during activities. We've seen students begin to reference these tools on their own which is an important step toward student confidence and learning.\r\n\r\nYour support has made all of this possible. The color printer has not only expanded the resources we can offer, but has also enriched the learning experience for every student we serve. I can not begin to share the excitement my students have when I tell them we are going to play \"Cookie Game\" better known as I Ready. When I say I need my Computer Guides (the students whose job is to pass out laptops) the class erupts is joyous excitement. If I tell them that we will not be going on \"cookie game\" today their excitement is a bit mellowed. They are still excited to be be going on their laptops, although not as excited as when they get to go on \"cookie game\". Our district would like the students to have an around thirty to forty-five minutes per week on I Ready. My students could double or triple this time because they love \"cookie game\". They would prefer to do I Ready \"cookie game\" over any other learning program. When a student passes a lesson, they are so excited, they tell all their classmates. Some will even turn their computers around and show everyone their passing score. My students have taken pride in their I Ready scores. One thing I have noticed is when they do not pass a lesson they do not get upset. Yes, they are unhappy about not passing and getting a cookie, but they are so focused on passing they keep trying until they do pass. Using the cookie reward has shown my students that if they persevere and not give up, they will succeed and receive their reward. Since September my students have passed over 500 I Ready lessons. Our class passing rate is improving week after week. I am so thankful for the donation. I do not need to worry about running out the store for more cookies all the time and my kiddos get to enjoy a \"bonus cookie\" day every once in a while.
