It has made learning fun, and interactive for the students. Students were initially reluctant to use the printing calculators, as it was new to them. However, they quickly warmed up as they saw the information coming to life on paper. \r\n Our first activity was setting up a mock bank, in which students had to interact as customers and banking clerks. You may be thinking that this activity may be antiquated, but it addresses many skills. Such as, communication, waiting patiently in a line, counting money and exchanging money. Providing good customer service and learning how to work under a little pressure while using a printing calculator to add and subtract figures. While providing a receipt. \r\n Our second activity was taking orders from our classroom mock restaurant. Menus were provided to staff and students, and orders were taken. The cashiers did their part by calculating, taking a payment and providing a receipt.","fullyFundedDate":1758724384631,"projectUrl":"project/real-math-brought-to-life/9749562/","projectTitle":"Real Math Brought to Life","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Posner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5346306_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1524522653907","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/karen-mcgrady"},{"teacherId":10163431,"projectId":9560983,"letterContent":"We cannot thank you enough for your generous contribution to our student-run business, Thriftee. Nobody minds going into the storage closet to retrieve equipment as long as they can find it. Now, there is no question where things are located. Our locker mates are also happier now, because they have ample space for their equipment, and it is easier for them to get in and out of the storage area. \r\n\r\nThank you for saving us time, money, and space. From notebooks and pencils to markers and organizational tools, every item you provided plays a vital role in creating a productive and inspiring learning environment.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped remove barriers and ensure that all of my students—regardless of background—start the year on equal footing. The supplies you provided have already made a tremendous impact in our classroom. At the beginning of the year, students used the new materials to personalize their assignments, giving them a chance to express themselves and share their interests and backgrounds with their teacher. This helped create a warm and welcoming learning environment right from the start. The creativity that blossomed from simply having access to basic materials like markers, colored pencils, and paper was incredible to witness.\r\n\r\nThe addition of supply caddies has also made a huge difference. These organized stations allow students to easily access tools such as rulers, markers, and other supplies they need to make their work more engaging and expressive. This accessibility encourages independence and ownership over their learning. Beyond that, your donations helped ensure the classroom remains cool and clean, something that's especially important during these scorching summer months, where temperatures regularly climb above 100 degrees. Students are able to walk into a refreshing and comfortable space that promotes focus, learning, and creativity, all because of your support. Students had been reviewing how to write equations of lines in slope-intercept form, so they could graph them by hand. After having time to work, I called on students to place their solutions under the document camera and share what they did. This lesson was a success thanks to your generous donation to our classroom. \r\n\r\nStudents stood at the new desk while they presented, which allowed them to move freely, pace, and fidget. Students were nervous to get up in front of their peers, but the class was super supportive, and everyone took a turn. One student asked to sit down while presenting, and I was able to meet their needs quickly with the new desk. \r\n\r\nDuring presentations, I sat back as students took over and provided presenters with praise and corrections. The class demonstrated that they knew what they were doing. Students took responsibility for their own learning, which is what I hoped to accomplish. After the last presentation, there was a collective sigh of relief. I made students aware that they were put into a mildly stressful situation (i.e., presenting), which increased the stakes of their learning while promoting it. Some students enjoyed the presentations and said we should do that more often, while others said they were glad to be done for now. \r\n\r\nHaving a space and a desk that are dedicated to presenting materials has made my job and student presentations less stressful. It is easier to organize my lesson presentation materials thanks to your donation. I recently taught a lesson that had a paper component, and online component, and a demonstration. With the new desk, I was able to quickly transition from one activity to the next. My students appreciate when my lessons transition seamlessly, because times goes by faster. Thank you for investing in my students, my classroom, and me. When the players arrived for off season practice, we surprised them with new equipment thanks to your generosity. \r\n\r\nThe new ball carts, scoreboards, flags, and cones are appreciated and helpful additions to our program. Players and coaches have made many positive comments about the new ball carts. Everyone appreciates their size, their shape, and the ease with which they glide across the floor. Not one ball cart has tipped over or gotten stuck since we started using them, and their parts stay securely assembled. Your donation has provided a new ball cart to each team in our program (freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity). We are deeply grateful for your support. \r\n\r\nWe use the scoreboards each practice to quantify how the team is doing, which helps them see their improvement. We often track how many properly executed passes or hits the team made during a drill, and then we try to beat that number the next time. Competing against ourselves and \"knowing our numbers\" helps players see that their efforts are making a difference. Further improving these drills are the addition of flags, which players use to signal if balls are in or out of bounds, and cones, which we use to identify where players should aim. \r\n\r\nOur volleyball program is improving, especially with the addition of the materials you helped provide. Thanks to your support, our players are having more efficient and informative practices. We look forward to a successful season. On behalf of our coaches and players, thank you. The Takis were a big hit, though one student suggested buying a bottle of hot sauce to make them spicier. Now, students no longer have to get upset over the lack of pens and pencils in the classroom. \r\n As for the markers, students can use them whenever they want to color during their breaks. The Expo markers have also been great for staff, as we use them to help students individually with work on smaller whiteboards. The Clorox wipes have been a lifesaver, especially since some students tend to write directly on their desks, and use their desks as plates. Also, some of the students have been showing signs of illness, therefore these wipes have been incredibly useful in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene. Additionally, since students can eat breakfast and lunch in class, utensils are always in high demand.\r\n In retrospect, the provision of writing materials and snacks has significantly impacted students' academic and emotional development.
