We try to look at reading as a positive activity, a way to relax and have fun. Unfortunately our school has not had a school wide library for many years now due to unforeseen circumstances that has prevented it. Itʻs been frustrating and disheartening. So, I started my own tiny little self-contained library a few years ago. Iʻve tried to keep up with the most current trends in books and these book have been a hit! My little classroom library is a huge passion for me because it gets books in the hands of not only my students, but other students in my building because I have opened my classroom library to other classrooms.\r\nThanks to your donation we are able to keep this little library going strong for a few more years, inspiring a love of books and a love of reading. It was a sight to see! These books will replace some of my most well loved books in my classroom library, which my students have free access to all day long as well as other students in the 4th and 3rd grade levels, should they wish to borrow books from me. This is because our school does not have a traditional school-wide library anymore. It suffered a fire many years ago, was rebuilt not long after that, but then was shut down again due to mold and other issues. Weʻve been without a school library since many years before the COVID-19 pandemic.\r\nTherefore, Iʻve made it an even bigger priority in my classroom to have free, easy, open access to books that students love. Iʻve always kept a small bookshelf of books in classroom, but it quickly expanded when I realized that our school library would not re-open. In my classroom, students are expected to have a book at their desk that they can pick up and read during their free time or down time. We also do peer book recommendations, and these graphic novels are usually the top of those lists because they really truly love them so much.\r\nSo thank you for supporting this ongoing and very important effort in my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1755756905846,"projectUrl":"project/replace-our-well-loved-books/9614950/","projectTitle":"Replace Our Well-loved Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Crivello","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1928041_orig.jpg?crop=2208,2208,x0,y66&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1626024225678","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kumukanoe"},{"teacherId":2338471,"projectId":9163966,"letterContent":"I can't thank you enough for giving our class the gift of new books! You've truly made reading/language arts time something my students look forward to each day.\r\n\r\nThese stories are helping us build so many important skills—like finding the main idea, making connections to our own lives, and talking about the lessons we see in characters' choices. The best part is that the kids don't even realize how much they're learning because they're so wrapped up in the stories.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, our mentor sentence/language wall can look a lot of different ways. Sometimes the kids work independently trying to analyze sentences, other times they pair up to share ideas, and we often gather together for read-alouds and big group discussions. Thanks to you, those moments feel more alive and exciting.\r\n\r\nI have to tell you about a few of my students: one who usually avoids reading now rushes to be the first to grab one of the new books. Another, who sometimes has trouble focusing, has been completely drawn in by a book that matches his own interests—he didn't want to stop reading when the time was up! Moments like these are what make teaching so rewarding, and it's all because of your generosity.\r\n\r\nYou've helped my students discover new worlds, see themselves in characters, and fall in love with reading. Watching them collaboratively build and create with Legos has been a joy, as they engage in teamwork, problem-solving, and open communication. It's remarkable to see how these experiences have helped nurture patience and empathy among classmates, transforming our classroom into a community of support and understanding.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the SEL supplies have been invaluable in guiding our students in their emotional growth. The tools and activities you've provided have enabled them to express their feelings effectively and learn essential conflict resolution skills.
