They helped decide which social-emotional learning activities to include, and guiding their peers with announcements and a video cast highlighting the resources. \r\n\r\nThrough this hands-on leadership, they learned how to organize resources, communicate effectively, and model coping strategies for others. They also marketed the station to reduce mental health stigma.\r\n\r\nThis service project will be expanded across our campus and at our annual wellness fair and parent nights to highlight the resources. For example, last week we set up five different stations during lunch—mindful breathing with pinwheels and bubbles, gratitude cards, watercolor art, fidgets, and aromatherapy—and invited classes to rotate through. Students eagerly joined each station, trying out calming tools and practicing new coping strategies.\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes first arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students explored the fidgets and calming tools, commented on the colors and scents, and many asked how we got it all donated! They were so excited to see how much was ordered!\r\n\r\nNext, our social work team will continue using these materials to host monthly wellness sessions and a larger schoolwide wellness fair. But with these new burners, students can now experience hands-on learning in a whole new way!\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting labs we've done is the Flame Test Experiment, where students observed how different elements produce unique colors when heated. They were amazed to see how electrons jump from the ground state to an excited state and release beautiful hues of red, green, blue, and violet.
