My students were immediately drawn to the calming textures and the cozy seating. For many of them, traditional reading areas can feel overwhelming, but this space gave them a safe and inviting place to explore books. One student ran their hands over the soft cushions and fluffy rug, smiled, and sat down to read a picture book. A moment that showed how much comfort matters for engagement.\r\n\r\nSince its arrival, we've been using this space daily during literacy time. Students choose books and settle into the sensory chairs. which helps them regulate and focus. This calm environment also supports communication: when students feel comfortable, they are more likely to use picture cards or AAC devices to request favorite stories or share what they see in the book. It's amazing to see them interact with books and express themselves in ways that build confidence and connection.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll continue to incorporate this space into our reading routines and expand its use for social-emotional learning activities. Our goal is to help students not only enjoy books but also develop communication skills and self-regulation strategies that will support them throughout their educational journey. Your generosity has truly transformed our classroom and made this possible, and we are so grateful for the lasting impact you've created.","fullyFundedDate":1760756495203,"projectUrl":"project/reading-in-comfort-a-sensory-space-for/9811526/","projectTitle":"Reading in Comfort: A Sensory Space for Special Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Angel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10306119_orig.png?crop=736,736,x0,y26&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1763058106510","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-a-mercado"},{"teacherId":9365661,"projectId":8886744,"letterContent":"My students and I are so thankful for the wonderful resources we received from our amazing donors. Your generosity has made a real difference in our classroom.\r\n\r\nSometimes, it can be challenging to engage students with special needs in a meaningful way. Thanks to these new materials, I have been able to do just that. My students—many of whom are English language learners and have special needs—are using the resources to build vocabulary and, most importantly, to develop peer-to-peer interaction skills. Even simple games have become opportunities for them to learn how to take turns, communicate, and collaborate with one another.\r\n\r\nThe materials you provided have already brought so much excitement and joy to our learning. It's inspiring to see how your kindness directly impacts our students' motivation, confidence, and success.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for believing in our classroom and supporting our goals.
