There was a supply issue with the original tubanos for the project but it was kind of a blessing as I was able to order a different brand as well as some extra drums and instruments for our drum circle games! We received our instruments a couple weeks before winter break and have been able to explore them a bit in the past weeks outside of break. The tubanos have been a huge hit with the students! They can't help but explore every inch of these new instruments from top to bottom, experimenting with different sounds the drum can make and peeking inside the resonating chamber. The paras can't help but give the instruments a try when they are assisting the students' playing also! In our drum circle activities, students have really enjoyed a call and response name game we've been playing. Students take turns saying the rhythm of their name on the drum alternating with a unison rhythm together. We had fun trying to figure out the rhythm of everyone's names. It was especially impactful for our non-speaking students who were able to \"say\" their name with the rhythm of the drum. When we were finally able to get through everyone's names with a steady groove you could tell how proud they were to create music together as they did. \r\n\r\nI tried to capture a little bit of their joy playing the drums in the pictures I sent but the kiddos truly love exploring these new instruments. You should see the way their eyes light up when they successfully produce a sound on them! For example, in another drum circle activity, we were taking turns on the bongos. A student who has never independently engaged with any instruments played on the bongos all by himself-; smiling and giggling all the while. He didn't want his turn to be finished, which has never happened before! It was magical to see him come alive through music exploration. \r\n\r\nWe are very much looking forward to continuing our exploration of these instruments and being able to use them throughout the year to create and communicate! We deeply appreciate your generosity and dedication to making the arts come alive in classrooms around the city.","fullyFundedDate":1760693753646,"projectUrl":"project/drum-circle-get-in-the-groove/9774876/","projectTitle":"Drum Circle: Get in the Groove!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hannah","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10294034_orig.jpg?crop=1840,1840,x0,y36&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759183760233","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10294034"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_101854","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":34,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":77.0,"schoolId":101854,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about P370K@163 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"P370K@163","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/p370k-163/101854"}
