The moment our students at P17X saw the new materials, their faces lit up with excitement. These resources are more than just supplies—they are the foundation of a structured, engaging, and accessible learning environment where our students can thrive.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom it is crucial having the right materials to support hands-on learning. Our students, many of whom learn best through movement and tactile experiences, are now able to engage with music in ways that truly meet their needs. Even our students who struggle with engagement can keep better focus due to our new methods of learning and our new organization and structure within the room!\r\n\r\nWe will continue using these materials to reinforce music fundamentals like note reading, pitch visualization, and sequencing. With more interactive tools available, we can adapt lessons for each student's learning style, making music class a place where everyone feels successful.\r\n\r\nYour support has made an enormous difference in our classroom, giving our students the tools they need to participate, create, and enjoy music to the fullest. We are so grateful for your kindness and for believing in the power of music education for all learners.","fullyFundedDate":1730817098614,"projectUrl":"project/help-music-class-essentials/8753474/","projectTitle":"Help! The excitement in our classroom was absolutely electric when our students at P17X saw the new instruments and materials (especially the rug!) for the first time. Many of them immediately reached out to touch and explore, eager to make sounds and create music together for the first time. For our special education high schoolers, hands-on learning is everything, and these instruments have opened up a whole new world of musical expression.\r\n\r\nWe've already begun incorporating the new instruments and materials into our lessons. This past fall we introduced a call-and-response rhythm activity where students took turns echoing and reading simple patterns on drums and percussion instruments. For some, this was their first time independently keeping a steady beat! One of our students, who is completely non-speaking/non-verbal, lit up with the most infectious smile as he successfully followed and performed a rhythm on his own—it was a powerful moment that showed just how much music can unlock for our learners. \r\n\r\nSince receiving the instruments, we've already had the opportunity to record a few songs as a class. Most recently, we wrote a song called \"Thankful For\" where each class participated in the recording process through lyric writing, instruments playing, ensemble singing, and/or performing speaking solos. We dedicated this song to all of those we are thankful for and all those who have shown their support and love to our little music program this year. \r\n\r\nHearing their own music played back has been an incredible confidence boost for our students, and they are so proud of what they've created! Moving forward, we plan to continue expanding these musical experiences by learning and creating even more songs, allowing our students to showcase their progress and creativity in new and exciting ways.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has made a lasting impact in our classroom, and we can't thank you enough for giving our students this incredible opportunity.","fullyFundedDate":1730852404090,"projectUrl":"project/new-music-program-in-need-of-instruments/8753368/","projectTitle":"New Music Program in Need of Instruments!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Scott","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9738975_orig.jpg?crop=789,789,x136,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1730738496887","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9738975"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_133530","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":34,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":47.2,"schoolId":133530,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about P17X @ 377X on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"P17X @ 377X","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/p17x-377x/133530"}
