Several of our 5th grade student leaders worked as a team to put together food bags for our families in temporary housing and any students experiencing food insecurity. They created about 40 bags of food which included easy shelf stable meals and snacks for the weekends. I know our student leaders felt very proud of themselves for helping out their school community. The timing of this project was especially important because many of our families lost the SNAP benefits that they rely on during the beginning of November. They were so grateful and appreciative to receive this extra assistance. Our students have expressed so much gratitude, even sharing what their favorite meals have been (ramen!). Thank you for helping us bridge the gap for when schools are closed and students aren't able to get the meals that they rely on in school. Most of my students started off the year by reading The Color Monster which introduces emotion regulation and teaches kids how to identify emotions. With the resources in this project, I was able to get supplemental Color Monster worksheets for extra practice and my students are making their own Color Monster books. I've also been able to create adaptive books that introduce mindfulness and coping skills in a more concrete and child-friendly way. We were able to laminate these resources to make them extra durable for repeated use. Additionally, the dot markers make it possible for my students that are still developing fine motor skills to participate in coloring and writing activities. We are so appreciative of the donors that support us. The toy food sets have sparked wonderful pretend play scenarios that let students try out new roles, build confidence, and strengthen their social skills. One of their favorite new games is One Trick Pony. The Talking, Feeling, and Doing game has been a great beginning of the year assessment tool for counseling services. These are resources that will last for years to come. Because of you, our students now have access to a wonderful new set of tools that are making a real difference in their emotional and social development.\r\n\r\nThe sensory bins and creative materials you helped provide have already become a favorite part of our therapy sessions. From kindergarten through 5th grade, students are using the sensory bins to engage in calming, hands-on activities that help them regulate their emotions and practice important coping skills. These sensory bins have been an opportunity for students to explore mindfulness, problem-solving, and self-expression. For some of my students, using the sensory bin is now a part of our counseling routine. The first thing we do is check in about our emotions. For my non-speaking students, we do this by finding a hidden feelings card in the sensory bin and labeling it. We also used the cardstock paper for a follow-up activity for making calming sensory jars. This was a popular activity and it helped parents to understand how to incorporate the coping tool at home.\r\n\r\nThe resources that you helped provide really allow us to elevate the work that we do with students and make the therapeutic activities even more meaningful. With your donation, my students received hot cocoa and marshmallows to pair with calming breathing exercises, cozy read aloud activities, and sensory-friendly mindfulness routines. \r\n\r\nMy students spent time identifying and practicing their preferred coping strategies and creating their own \"Cups of Coping Skills.\" Then we engaged in a mindful breathing exercise with the hot chocolate and marshmallows - which my students LOVED. \r\n\r\nIt was so cozy to have the puppets join us during bibliotherapy exercises. The students are so interested in the lifelike puppets and are really motivated to participate when they have the company of a furry friend. The puppets really bring our books to life.\r\n\r\nIn preparation for learning grounding exercises, students have also been learning about their senses. The different sensory tools like the rain sticks help students practice identifying and describing what they see and hear. We also used the gummy worms to describe what we see, smell, feel, and taste. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for your support.
