My students have loved their reading buddies and always ask to have on with them as they read a book. This occurs even outside of the reading rotations it was initially designed for. The whisper phones have been a great encouragement for those who like to read out loud and giving them confidence in themselves. The organization folder has also helped as intended in that the students group work is filed and kept in one place. I am able to place work in the intended area and during rotation, they go straight to their colored group and receive or drop off their work. Everyone wants to use the cushions as well! They enjoy being comfortable on the hard floor and there's extra to even double up. This allows the students to choose a comfortable area they can sit and read during their self reading rotation besides being at their desk. Finally, they loved the bookmarks! They are able to keep their place in a chapter book and they keep their chapter book in their desks for them to keep reading. \r\n Overall, the donations we have received in the class have been most beneficial and they are so happy and are so encouraged to READ! :) It has helped with classroom management and with being able to decrease distractions through transitions. It has encouraged the students to want to read and be comfortable during their independent work time. They immediately, immediately wanted to work with clay and they did. They created pinch pots, coil pots and other fun clay sculptures.\r\nClay is one of the art students' favorite mediums. When the students first say the Posca colored pencils they were absolutely elated. They were eager to try the the colored pencils on the spot. They very skillfully separated to colored pencils to warm and cool colors several times. They then got with an art buddy or into a collaboration groups of art friends and started to experiment with the colored pencils, creating compositions that used all the space on their papers. Students were able to begin with films on the Rovers and also on Max the dog that went to Mars and other astronaut and space films and clips. The students were absoluetely besides themselves when the sketchbooks and drawing pencils arrived. They all wanted to immediately claim the sketchbooks.\r\nIn class students start with a sketchbook prompt that allows them to quietly sketch using shading, lines to show movement and shadow and hatching and cross hatching and stippling among other techniques.\r\nStudents then come up to the front of the class and show their sketch and use art vovabulary to discuss their art and techniques and elements of art they used. Then students are able to give grow and glow comments. They were intrigued as to why there is rock salt in the art room. The students immediately opened the pipettes and started to explore with paint and paper.\r\n\r\nThe students were also instructed on how to add salt to their art them add watercolor to the salt and observe the reaction. They not only made art they were also doing science. The students then got back to art and did watercolor painting with salt that absorbed the water and pushed the pigment away. They were very excited to open the boxes with the people color pencils and ink pads along with Posca Markers. They immediately took to trying out the multicultural colors to create doodles and characters. \r\n\r\nThe project that incorporated the use of these materials focused on rading books about the diverisity of skin colors and then drawing a world with many different people of different colors with flags from different countries above their heads. Students were particularly engrossed in the book about a robin building a nest. It was interesting to present the book in a book study of sorts where a group of students read the book together then are able to answer questions about book's plot, characters, problem and solution through various art projects. Then students went outside to look for twigs, leaves and brush so that they could make a sculpture of a nest.
