Instead of having to share limited equipment or make substitutions, students now have access to the pans, utensils, and appliances they need to fully engage in hands-on learning. This has allowed them to gain confidence in their cooking abilities, understand how to use professional-grade tools, and create dishes that better reflect real-world culinary standards. Having the right supplies has also helped lessons run more smoothly and efficiently, creating a stronger connection between classroom instruction and practical application.\r\n\r\nBeyond the technical skills, these donations have inspired a greater sense of excitement and pride in my students. They are more motivated to participate and take ownership of their learning because they feel supported by the community and valued as future chefs and professionals. Students have expressed how much easier it is to follow recipes and complete lab activities when the right tools are available, and they've shown more collaboration and teamwork during class projects. Ultimately, these donations have not only improved the quality of their culinary education but also boosted their confidence, creativity, and enthusiasm for pursuing future opportunities in the field.","fullyFundedDate":1744050363648,"projectUrl":"project/kitchen-essentials-create-amazing-dishe/8999226/","projectTitle":"Kitchen Essentials, create AMAZING dishes!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sandoval-Rios","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9695448_orig.jpg?crop=499,500,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733847755885","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9695448"},{"teacherId":9760955,"projectId":9238418,"letterContent":"It's the best day ever! First I want to apologize for taking so long to write my thank-you. This semester is Stock Show/CDE/Testing in Texas...plus I had a new GRANDbaby on the day this was due. Again, I am so sorry.\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes began to arrive before Christmas break, my students could not wait to start opening. I love teaching about self-sustainability and how we can make our imprint on our world by living off the land God has provided. Being in a rural community, most all of my students have parents who are tied to agriculture, so self sustainability is something they can all practice. Many of them already have small gardens and raise some type of livestock. Things they have not had access to are things they can grow in their own homes. The most popular things we received were the different hydroponic kits. The kids got them all put together. \r\n\r\nBecause it is still winter here, and I miss about a month and half of classroom time due to stock shows and FFA Competitions, we have not planted anything yet. We will do that as soon as spring break is over. I have also purchased some above ground planters for us to put our herbs in once it is warm enough outside. Over the next few years, I plan to get a small greenhouse and incorporate that into our curriculum. I have about 100 members of Senior FFA and feel that over half of them will want to participate in our community garden plan. Thanks to the donations I have received from Donors Choose.org, we have a great start to our 3 year long-term plan. Eventually who knows, we may incorporate a feedlot and possibly a meat processing area. Of course, those are long-term goals, but in today's world, you must be able to be self sustainable in all aspects of life.","fullyFundedDate":1731623695447,"projectUrl":"project/live-off-the-land-needs-for-an-agricult/8685692/","projectTitle":"Live off the Land: Needs for an Agriculture Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9695385"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_12936","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":201,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":75,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":15,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":82,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"9.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":55.6,"schoolId":12936,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Olton High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Olton High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/olton-independent-school-district/olton-high-school/12936"}
