All of the items came in very quickly and brought such excitement to our classroom. Our children were thrilled to help open each box and squealed at every item they pulled out. \r\nWe have already started using the items on a daily basis in our classroom. The children are using materials in the sensory bin every day. They are also using pop its and calming beads in the \"Safe Place\" when they need a moment to refocus and work on self-control and emotion regulation. \r\nThe students have also been working on language skills a great deal using the questioning dice and pop-up topic balls in small groups with teachers. These materials offer natural opportunities to share personal information and help navigate topics that are sometimes hard to talk about in a typical setting. \r\nFinally, the students are enjoying the matching puzzles and memory games in independent play time. They are able to spend time working with a friend to complete tasks. They are also interacting and working on social skills as they complete these fun tasks. \r\nWe will forever be grateful to Donors Choose and the team for helping us with resources that will help our children succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1733239457317,"projectUrl":"project/calm-down/8968749/","projectTitle":"Calm Down!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. L.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp519100_orig.jpg?crop=339,339,x121,y150&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1681756107242","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/519100"},{"teacherId":3247577,"projectId":8833043,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generosity. My students were so excited to receive the materials for this project. When I was assembling the play grill, they were ready to play with it! Our students rotate through centers, and they were all trying to go to the area with the grill, the vet/pet care kits, and the hair salon materials. \r\n\r\nThese play materials have given the students the opportunity to practice patience, take turns, and share materials, all of which are difficult for many of our special students. The materials have provided the staff the opportunity to model language for the students, both related to social skills, as well as labeling, and talking about the items. \r\n\r\nIt has been fun to watch the students play skills as it gives an insight into what they have experienced. Some of the students used the pretend scissors, clippers, and blow dryer to \"style\" the stuffed animals. Watching the students interact with the stuffed animals from the vet/pet care kits has been fun. They have shown the animals compassion by giving them hugs, or petting them when they use the bandages to wrap their paws. They enjoy fixing food for the adults in the class on the grill. \r\n\r\nOur current and future students will benefit for many years to come with these imaginative play items. They are building language and social skills that will improve their lives beyond their time in preschool. The large fruit stacker allows the staff to talk to the students about the colors, sizes and types of fruit. \r\n\r\nOur students are learning to take turns with the new items, which is a skill many need practice with. Many of the items we received help the students strengthen their hand muscles which is important for future success with writing, and daily living skills such as opening food packages. \r\n\r\nMy goal for this was to make improving motor skills fun so our students did not even realize they were working, and you all have helped me achieve this.
