When the students first walked into the first day of school they, thought it was so cool how the lights were dimmed and lamps were on! It helps them to feel calm and welcomed in the classroom environment. I also have a job that is 'lights helper' and it is teaching them responsibility to turn the lights off every night. \r\n\r\nThere are big lamps towards the front of my classroom, and small lamps around my library to help students be able to see while still avoiding harsh overhead lights. The students love to sit by the lamps and read. They get sad when I have to turn the overhead lights on if it is a foggy day and we need a little more light. I am so thankful we don't have use the overheads every day and get the opportunity to use natural lighting due to a generous anonymous donor!","fullyFundedDate":1750253170318,"projectUrl":"project/getting-comfy-and-cozy-in-the-classroom/9380000/","projectTitle":"Getting Comfy and Cozy in the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ostrand","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10000346"},{"teacherId":9072199,"projectId":8246017,"letterContent":"Thank you for helping us make this dream of a community book come to life. This project was a novel idea for our families and has brought about more positive results than we were expecting or even hoping for. We knew that students would love to have time to read a book with their parents (instead of their teachers), and that we could be a positive influence simply by getting a great book into their homes. What we didn't expect were the delightful conversations between staff, deep joy of children with a shared experience, and fond memories of adults recalling their first time experiencing a classic story.\r\n Our librarian presented the project to each class during their weekly class and sent a book home with the oldest child of each family along with a letter explaining our goals. We sent out encouragement on social media and a calendar of deadlines for each chapter. Then, the secretary asked a question each week over the morning announcements and the children were allowed to share their answers with their teachers. This kept the students engaged and encouraged them to go home and read some more to get back on track and keep up with their peers. We also are continually building a bigger and bigger yarn web each week down the hallway and have added the characters and chapter questions to the web as it grows. We are looking forward to some book trivia games and the shared movie night as the culminating event. \r\n Some delightful, surprising moments happened along the way that I'd love to share. One student... a fourth grade boy who rarely smiles, is new to our district, and has a history of trauma was so delighted to have a book of his own that he gets to \"keep forever?!\". The wonder and gratefulness we saw on his face made him light up. This whole project was worth it simply for that moment. It changed his life and made him smile simply to get a book that was his to keep. Another delightful moment was when a farmer husband of one of our teachers came home and asked her if they were going to read Charlotte's Web as part of the challenge since he had seen it advertised on social media. The teacher wife agreed, but it was silly and charming because their only child is only one year old and wouldn't understand it, but her husband wanted to be part of the group experience and 'loved that book when he was little'. \r\n Thank you for the help making this experience possible. You brought so much joy to so many age groups!","fullyFundedDate":1715162817027,"projectUrl":"project/one-book-one-school-charlottes-web-for/8246017/","projectTitle":"One Book One School: Charlotte's Web for Terrific Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Meyer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9072199_orig.jpg?crop=1440,1440,x587,y61&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1686933980412","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9072199"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78877","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":237,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":42,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":85,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"11.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":69.4,"schoolId":78877,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Oakland Craig Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Oakland Craig Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nebraska/oakland-craig-school-district-14/oakland-craig-elementary-school/78877"}
