Students are more eager to participate in group work, help organize materials, and share supplies responsibly. With enough markers to go around, frustration has decreased and creativity has grown. In my small groups we do lots of word building. Students practice CVC, consonant vowel consonant, words by writing them and building them. I provide sound boxes so they can map out the sounds they hear when spelling the word. \r\nAlthough I had lots of magnetic letters, I did not have magnetic boards to put them on. \r\nOne thing about first graders is they move around a lot! Without a magnet under the letters, they sometimes would accidentally knock the letters out of position.
