Because of your kindness, we have already completed four units, each centered around a different book. During these units, students practiced counting syllables by clapping their hands using words from the stories, looked back in the text to identify the sequence of events, and worked on finding the setting, characters, and plot. The students especially loved reading together as a whole group and pointing out details in the pictures, which helped build engagement and confidence.\r\n\r\nWe also used character cards to keep track of who was in each story and what they did, along with emotion cards to support social skills and discuss how characters were feeling and acting. These activities made learning meaningful and accessible for all of our students. Your selfless donations did not go unnoticed, and we are truly grateful for the positive impact they have had on our classroom. We look forward to using the rest of the books and units and continuing to grow our love of reading together.","fullyFundedDate":1760405812319,"projectUrl":"project/reading-is-fun/9771664/","projectTitle":"Reading is Fun!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Evans","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7074943_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1747948894951","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7074943"},{"teacherId":10049667,"projectId":9690635,"letterContent":"I can not thank you enough for partnering with me to bring a little Christmas Cheer to our classroom.\r\n\r\nEach of my students were able to create an ornament with the supplies you provided to hang on our classroom Christmas Tree. Each ornament included a photo of the students choosing that they felt represented them and their little personality. \r\n\r\nNot only did they enjoy the actual making of the ornament, it was so fun to see them crowded around the tree trying to find where THEIR ornament was placed.... where THEY were represented on the tree.\r\n\r\nSeveral teachers on our hall even stopped by and commented on how much they really loved the ornaments. \r\n\r\nBecause of you, every one of my students felt seen in that moment. Each issue introduces real-world topics in a way that is engaging, age-appropriate, and meaningful for my students. We've been using the articles to practice key reading skills such as identifying main ideas and details, making inferences, and expanding vocabulary. The magazines also spark important discussions about science, history, and current events—helping students make real-life connections and see how reading applies beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\n Reading now feels exciting and interactive. My students love when it's \"magazine day\"—they eagerly flip through the pages, point out interesting pictures, and talk with each other about what they've learned. We often read the articles together as a group, highlight key information, and answer comprehension questions. These hands-on activities have helped even my most reluctant readers participate with enthusiasm and confidence.\r\n\r\n Several of my students who typically shy away from longer books are especially drawn to the short, high-interest articles. One student who rarely engaged during reading now proudly volunteers to read aloud and share his thoughts with the class. It's been amazing to watch their curiosity grow with each new issue.
