Starting the year with a calm corner and various resources for emotional regulation has made a huge difference for my students. With the tools from this project, I was not only able to set up a dedicated space in my classroom for students to take short breaks during class, but also provide tools that can be used at any time during a lesson. \r\nAt the start of class, students have made it part of their routine to grab a fidget to help them focus while completing their work. In some classes, almost every student has a fidget on their desk! This has created a much more focused and productive environment in my classroom. Students are able to pay better attention during direct instructions, and persist during longer learning activities. They also feel empowered to advocate for themselves and utilize the tools I have provided in order for them to do their best work. Additionally, students love being able to sit in the bean bag chair and take a short break.
