There are no words large enough to describe the impact our classroom carpet has made for us! Thank you from the bottom of my heart (and theirs). We had a tiny, worn out carpet that did not fit everyone. It has made such a huge difference in comfort and also the ability for them to sit and learn when they aren't bunched up on top of a friend.\r\nThe carpet was brought in while they kids were on playground. When they entered the room they were AMAZED! They squealed and ran over to it....then they were all testing it out...lol! by laying on it, rubbing the pictures to see how they feel...They were and are so happy. I instantly noticed that comfort and having room have made such a difference. It isn't easy to learn when your friend's legs and feet are in your back. Since the project was funded, students in our STEM classes have been able to learn about how plants grow and then see it in real life! Students planted seeds and watched them grow over the weeks. They then added those small seedings to our school garden, adding beauty to our campus. \r\n\r\nAs with any project, there were hiccups. Many of our seeds did not sprout, which made for some very sad and disappointed first and third graders. However, they learned a valuable lesson from this... that not all things in life work as you want them to. We discussed various reasons why they didn't sprout. I was impressed by how our first graders used their knowledge of plants and their growth cycle to work out the problem at hand. They problem-solved and decided that we should replant seeds at a later time to see if the weather played a part in their lack of growth. (Florida weather can be quite warm for most of the year.) They also thought maybe our seeds were too old. We will definitely be replanting in the early spring when it's much cooler. \r\n\r\nAgain, we thank you all for your donations to help fund this project. These tools help create an inclusive learning environment where each child feels supported according to their individual sensory needs.
