We have a new school social work program this year, and your donation has greatly impacted our ability to provide social skills instruction to students K-8! \r\n\r\nThe books from the project are used to teach social skills and reflect on how to improve focus in class, use flexible thinking and adapt to changes/unexpected things in school, and accepting things we don't like. The What If game has been great for middle school students to reflect and problem solve on how to handle situations that may arise at school. They also enjoy using the fidget slugs while they discuss hard topics.\r\n\r\nOne of the most sought out things by students from this project includes the mini zen garden. Almost every one of the students I work with use this to regulate themselves and to focus themselves while discussing hard things like emotions and having more positive behavior in school. \r\n\r\nThe weighted blanket and timer are used in our calm down room, so that students who need to self regulate have a safe and calming place to do so. The vibrating neck pillow has been used to give sensory input for a student with autism. \r\n\r\nYour generosity has truly made a difference in our schools, and I and our students thank you!!","fullyFundedDate":1758546532657,"projectUrl":"project/social-emotional-learning-sensory-item/9714765/","projectTitle":"Social Emotional Learning & Sensory Items","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Borchardt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10060621"},{"teacherId":10060621,"projectId":9645015,"letterContent":"I am so grateful and thankful for your generous donation to our school. As a new school social worker this year, building a program from the ground up has been amazing, and your donation allowed me to purchase much needed materials for my individual social skills sessions with students. The materials are put to daily use in my work with students, and they have been so beneficial to instructing students on social skills. \r\n\r\nIn the materials received, the Little SPOT of feelings books are used daily with my elementary students, teaching skills such as frustration tolerance, flexible thinking, and identifying and coping with big emotions. \r\n\r\nThe mini shredder that was in the project has been one of the largest impacts. I have it on my counter right inside the door, and students know they can stop in anytime, write down their worries or anxious thoughts, and shred them to get them out of their mind. It has helped students who have thoughts stuck in their head, and they know that by writing them down and shredding them, that they can move on with their day and say the mantra that I have posted on the side of the shredder, and shred away their stuck thoughts. \r\n\r\nMy middle school students love the games that I received from this project, including Jenga and Connect More. Playing a game takes some of the focus off of talking about emotions and feelings, and makes it more interactive during individual sessions. I also use the spot it game to teach executive functioning skills such as focusing, speed, working memory, and sportsmanship. \r\n\r\nLastly, the bean bag chair is used in our calming sensory room, and allows students a place to calm down when upset or frustrated, and work to regulate themselves. All of the items received help students to regulate, and get back on track in their school day!\r\n\r\nI cannot thank you enough for your generous donation, the items are used every day, and have provided the tools to help students regulate themselves and learn much needed social skills!","fullyFundedDate":1757882087591,"projectUrl":"project/social-work-office-games-and-activities/9645015/","projectTitle":"Social Work Office Games and Activities for Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Borchardt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10060621"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_59675","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":131,"numTeachers":12,"percentFrplEligible":54,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":80,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":33.3,"schoolId":59675,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about North Kossuth Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"North Kossuth Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/iowa/north-kossuth-community-school-district/north-kossuth-elementary-school/59675"}
