The new soccer balls, pumps, and pinnies have made a noticeable difference during practices. We are able to spend more time actually playing and practicing instead of sharing limited equipment or stopping because balls need air. The pinnies have also made it much easier to divide students into teams for drills, scrimmages, and small-sided games.\r\n\r\nOur students were excited when they first saw the new equipment. Having new soccer balls and supplies made them feel proud of their team and eager to get on the field. One of the best moments has been watching students grab a ball and immediately begin passing, shooting, and encouraging one another before practice even officially begins.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building individual skills such as passing, dribbling, shooting, and ball control while also focusing on teamwork, communication, and game strategy. As the season progresses, we will use the equipment during drills and scrimmages to help students become more confident players and stronger teammates.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students and our soccer program. As we read, students are developing important literacy skills such as identifying theme, analyzing character development, making inferences, citing textual evidence, and examining how historical events influence a story. The novel has also opened the door for meaningful lessons about World War II, the Navajo Code Talkers, Native American history and culture, perseverance, service, and the importance of language and identity.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is much more than simply finishing chapters. Students read together, participate in discussions, respond to questions, analyze important passages, and connect events in the novel to what they are learning about history. Having a book in every student's hands makes these conversations much more meaningful because everyone can follow along, revisit passages, and actively participate.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting parts of this project has been seeing students who do not always consider themselves readers become interested in the story. The action, historical connections, and real-life experiences behind the Navajo Code Talkers have especially captured the attention of students who enjoy history, military topics, and stories of courage. Students are asking questions, making connections, and sharing what they have learned with one another.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our students are not only strengthening their reading skills—they are discovering an important part of American history and learning about the extraordinary contributions of the Navajo Code Talkers. Having enough copies for students to read and discuss the same text together allows teachers to build lessons around important reading skills such as comprehension, making inferences, identifying theme, analyzing characters, citing text evidence, building vocabulary, and participating in thoughtful discussions. Students are able to look closely at the text, share their ideas, and learn from the perspectives of their classmates.\r\n\r\nReading has become much more interactive and engaging. Students read independently, with partners, in small groups, and as a whole class. Teachers can stop throughout the novel to ask questions, model reading strategies, and encourage students to make connections between the story and their own lives. Having a book in every student's hands also means that no one has to wait for a copy or miss out on an important part of the lesson.\r\n\r\nWe have especially enjoyed seeing students who do not always consider themselves strong readers become invested in the story. Some students who are usually hesitant to participate are eager to share predictions, discuss favorite characters, and talk about what they think will happen next. The shared experience of reading the same novel has helped create a community of readers while giving students the confidence and skills they need to grow. Last year alone, our counseling team had more than 4,000 student visits, so we have the opportunity to connect with a LOT of students throughout the school year. The project has become more than a fundraiser, it is a hands-on lesson in responsibility, math, teamwork, and service.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, students were genuinely excited because they knew it meant their idea was becoming a reality. They are not used to replace foundational math skills; instead, they help students move beyond basic computation and focus on deeper thinking. With calculators, students can analyze patterns, solve multi-step problems, interpret data, and check their reasoning in real time. This immediate feedback strengthens understanding and builds confidence. For students who struggle with arithmetic, calculators remove a barrier and allow them to fully engage in higher-level problem solving alongside their peers, creating a more equitable learning environment.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is having consistent access to a reliable tool that helps them feel capable and prepared. They love being able to check their answers independently and see confirmation of their hard work right away. I have especially noticed growth in students who previously felt anxious about math; having a calculator in hand reduces stress and gives them the courage to participate more actively. At the same time, naturally curious students are using the technology to experiment with numbers and test different strategies.
