I was thrilled to see that every student involved wanted to try out the STEM based activities! Each of the new games challenge their logic and spacial awareness, plus they help promote teamwork. I really have noticed that students are helping each other learn something new and have not become frustrated when their classmates point out an error they are making. Additionally, there were a few students that were familiar with an activity or two, so they have become the leader for teaching others about that particular game. \r\nThank you for choosing to donate to the \"choice time refresh\" project so that the library has some new and challenging STEM activities that not only appeal to all students but allow all learners to be involved, including those with communication differences. Decide! Vote! project. Each year my students love delving into the newly nominated titles in the four different awards that span students in elementary school. \r\n\r\nThe primary age students have read three different picture books in the collection. So far we have read about accepting new students to our class and thinking about how they must feel as a newcomer in the book The Together Tree. Next, we read about a buffalo that that feels that he needs to act bigger than he is, when he's really just looking for acceptance in Buffalo Fluffalo. Our third title, My Friend Andy, is told from the perspective of the dog. In the story the dog becomes lost, is found by his canine friend and owner and then is ultimately reunited with it's owner. This book helped us understand more about unhoused people. \r\n\r\nIn 3rd grade, we have begun reading the non-fiction Towner Award nominees. We just finished learning about chef Jose Andres of World Central Kitchen and the work that his organization does in the book Jose Feeds the World. Not only did we read the book, but we watched a video about World Central Kitchen, looked at the map of all the places in the world where the organization has helped communities and discussed empowering people to help when tragedy strikes. We are looking forward to reading the rest of the titles this year. \r\n\r\nThere are two more awards that we have not gotten started with yet, but will be learning about soon. My students are already asking when both of these chapter book award nominees will be out on the shelves! They are really excited to learn about the 2026 OTTER and 2026 Sasquatch Award titles and I can't wait to share them with the students. \r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the power of books for students. We are very lucky to have so many great books for them to read as they are learning to become lifelong readers. Books not only bring students together, but also aid in showing students the windows and mirrors in their lives.","fullyFundedDate":1744224939667,"projectUrl":"project/read-decide-vote/9236690/","projectTitle":"Read!
