Students are able to utilize hands-on learning about both technology and finances through the use of these systems, as well as increase and practice their social skills as they interact with different students on campus. This is probably the part of all of this that excites my students the most - being able to interact with different students throughout the school day. They are able to take orders, input the orders into the systems, and then show them where to pay.\r\n\r\nThis whole donation has been a great benefit to our unit. This seemingly simple gift has had a profound and meaningful impact on my classroom, and I want to share with you just how much it means to my students and me.\r\n\r\nAs an educator, I often face the challenge of providing students with the most authentic and effective learning experiences possible, especially when resources are limited. For years, I've found myself in a position where the final exam for English Composition, a course centered on critical thinking and formal writing, was compromised. To simulate a university-level experience, I wanted my students to practice timed, handwritten essays. This is a crucial skill for college success, where many professors still administer exams this way. However, the cost of a full set of Blue Books for over 100 students each semester was an expense that my department simply could not accommodate within its budget. As a result, I often had to rely on a piecemeal solution of notebook paper or scrounge for a handful of Blue Books left over from previous years, which fell far short of what was needed to create a consistent, realistic testing environment.\r\n\r\nWhen I learned that my application to the Extra Yard for Teachers program was approved, a wave of relief and excitement washed over me. Your support immediately removed this barrier and allowed me to provide an experience that is not only more authentic but also more equitable for my students. The act of writing in a Blue Book is more than just a test; it's a rite of passage, a tangible step toward the next chapter of their academic lives. It helps them build confidence in a skill that can't be replicated on a computer. The act of sitting down with a pen and a Blue Book forces them to slow down, to think more deliberately, and to compose their thoughts in a way that digital writing often doesn't. They can't rely on spell-check or cut-and-paste. They must engage with the material and their own ideas in a more disciplined and focused manner. This is a critical skill for college success and something that your donation has directly helped me teach.\r\n\r\nMy students were thrilled when I showed them the new stack of Blue Books. It's a small thing, but to them, it felt like a real sign of respect and a genuine investment in their future. The sense of shared purpose in the classroom has been elevated. Knowing that a large, influential organization like the SEC cares enough about their education to provide these resources has been incredibly motivating for them. It has also helped to reinforce the message that their hard work is valued and that their efforts to prepare for higher education are supported by the wider community.\r\n\r\nYour program's commitment to supporting educators and students is a game-changer. It shows a deep understanding of the daily challenges we face in the classroom and a willingness to provide tangible solutions. The Extra Yard for Teachers program is more than just a grant; it's a partnership in education. It allows teachers like me to focus on what matters most—teaching—without the added stress of finding a way to pay for essential classroom supplies. Your generosity has empowered me to create a more robust and effective learning environment, and for that, I am truly grateful.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your incredible contribution. The Southeastern Conference and the Extra Yard for Teachers program have made a lasting difference in my students' academic journey and have helped to prepare them for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.","fullyFundedDate":1752861756159,"projectUrl":"project/blue-books-for-eng-111-fully-funded/9404235/","projectTitle":"Blue Books for ENG 111 (Fully Funded)","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Buehler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2062894"},{"teacherId":2062894,"projectId":9265649,"letterContent":"Thank you to the SEC and the Extra Yard for Teachers program for helping me improve instruction in my classroom! \r\n\r\nThe Office jet 8015e printer is incredibly helpful for my students who are completing and presenting projects to their classmates.
