We had a lot of positive interest in the beginning of the school year, and it didn't take long for our name to spread around campus. We wanted to find a way to carry our message quickly to as many people as possible. The \"Tiny Duck Project\" offered that delivery in a fun way. We cleverly paired messages about mental health each month with a duck theme, and out club hid the ducks all over campus the night before a duck-hunt day. Both students and staff alike enjoyed finding the ducks, and sharing them among their friends.\r\nAdditionally when we had a student engagement table for National Stress Awareness Day (that just happened to fall on the day after the 2024 election in November, We were able to offer the stickers you provided as well as conversation with peers and methods for relieving stress. Again, both faculty and students visited our table and expressed their gratitude.\r\nNone of this would have been possible without this DONORS CHOOSE OPPORTUNITY so early in the school year.","fullyFundedDate":1723475599655,"projectUrl":"project/at-nghs-you-matter-help-end-the-stigma/8620393/","projectTitle":"At NGHS You Matter: Help End the Stigma of Mental Health","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carrie Deem","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5433821_orig.jpg?crop=1842,1843,x0,y122&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1697765021204","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-deem"},{"teacherId":5433821,"projectId":8950128,"letterContent":"Each year I offer my students a selection of books for Literary Circles--or mini book clubs. We have two units in the second semester of the year; Literary Non-fiction and Fiction. This year I was excited to try and add two new titles to the choices.\r\nFor Literary Non-fiction, I chose JUST MERCY; The young adult version, by Bryan Stevenson. After getting to hear this author and acclaimed attorney speak at the National Convention for Teachers of English in November, 2024, I knew his story would be one of great interest to my students. Thanks to donors like you, I was able to offer a JUST MERCY Lit. circle in 2 classes. This book was chosen by several students, and they found it incredibly interesting!\r\nFor the Fiction Unit, I provide students with a diverse set of stories across multiple genres, and stories that are written by POC. Additionally, the characters are POC, and not just going through traumatic stuff, they are living their best lives, and sometimes there are monsters and mythical creatures to deal with. I chose the newly released novel, THE DIVIDING SKY, by Jill Tew. Both classes grabbed ALL class copies, and some bought their own!","fullyFundedDate":1733334641074,"projectUrl":"project/fiction-and-nonfiction-poc-representatio/8950128/","projectTitle":"Fiction and Nonfiction Poc Representation Matters!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carrie Deem","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5433821_orig.jpg?crop=1842,1843,x0,y122&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1697765021204","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-deem"},{"teacherId":5433821,"projectId":8839929,"letterContent":"It is with great enthusiasm that I get to share my thanks with you all for the wonderful donation of books you provided to my classroom library this year! We have a classroom library sorted into a variety of genres including: Adventure, Sci-fi, Fantasy, Realistic fiction, mystery, horror, romance, sports, and historical fiction! Your donation helped me add titles to the genres that are harder to find young adult books.\r\n\r\nThese genres are of course mystery, horror and adventure. So, this project specifically targeted getting titles that fall under these categories. As you can see in the pictures, once I had them all labeled up I set them on the cart for display. I spent the next couple of days introducing books to each class, and as a result, we had lots of checkouts! I love hearing kids tell me they finished a book--maybe even their first one ever--by choice.
