I couldn't believe my eyes! I was so happy I cried, unfortunately in the end I was not able to share the good news with my students at North Grand. I was transferred to Prosser Career Academy which luckily despite the recent budget cuts I have been lucky enough to not only be able to keep my job, but be able to remain at Prosser for another year.\r\n\r\nI will say the Prosser students were not only very surprised at how comfortable and organized the office was with your assistance, but they were very happy to be able to get snacks throughout the year, especially during stressful times such as midterms and final exam weeks. Being able to give them some form of snack help them to not only maintain their focus but also helped them recharge as testing can be very stressful; and at times the snacks I provided them may have been the only meal they received. It's funny how much snacks can matter... there is something about coming together after school and gathering around some much needed snacks that just makes you feel cared for. So thank you so much for making my students feel cared for. We took a trip to a queer bookstore after school just a few weeks ago, and it was awesome to get to tell them that we have a small queer library ourselves now! We read Tango Makes Three and the book about Marsha and Sylvia together, and it brought some great discussion and piqued curiosity about LGBTQ history. A few students have the Heartstopper books and the history book at home to read and we will get to switch books as they finish reading them. It's also been great to have pins for kids - we are making t-shirts, but some student don't want anything pride-themed on them because some are not ready to be out at home yet. So the pins are great because for students who are out at school but not at home, they can wear their pin at school and just leave it here. Just yesterday Trump signed an executive order removing protections for queer and trans youth and adults. When trans kids especially can feel so alienated in today's climate, this space is so important, and it means a lot that people I haven't even met are on our side.
