With your support, my students have been able to engage in meaningful, hands-on activities that develop job readiness skills and life skills. From organizing to cleaning and maintaining shared spaces, they are learning responsibility, teamwork, task completion, problem solving and organizational skills. They are taking pride in their work while making a positive impact on our school environment.\r\n\r\nThe project has encouraged community involvement, and fostered independence, confidence, and teamwork among the students as they see the results of their efforts around campus. They've taken ownership of their tasks and are excited to contribute to their community in a visible and valuable way. This project has evolved into a reward system that encourages the students to do their best effort and work. An Employee of the Month program was created to celebrate the student with the most points, earning a favorite lunch and snack to enjoy during lunch time. Our next step is to add a few general education peers for them to partner with and work with fostering inclusion. For some, it was their first time planting anything, so it was fun to see them ask questions and get their hands dirty. It took three attempts to plant the seeds before our seeds started to grow. However, this process encouraged a lot of class discussions, explanations, thoughts, and reflection on why the seeds were not growing. And the kids did not give up. This project engaged my students with a lot of activity, thinking, and movement. When we finally saw the first sprouts poking through the soil, the whole class was excited. That moment of success really boosted their confidence and made the project feel meaningful.\r\n\r\nNow that our garden is growing, we're shifting into the data collection phase. Each student has their own plant and tracking sheet where they record height, count leaves, and note daily changes. They're using rulers, noticing patterns, and talking about their observations—connecting math skills to something they can see and touch. Our next steps will include graphing their data and talking about what might be affecting the different growth rates. This will be followed by student presentations on their plants. It's been amazing to watch them take ownership of their plants, water their plants, and feel proud of the progress they're seeing, both in the garden and in their learning.","fullyFundedDate":1732984387919,"projectUrl":"project/grow-and-tell-a-mini-garden-adventure/8977088/","projectTitle":"Grow and Tell: A Mini-Garden Adventure","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Meives","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9679176"},{"teacherId":7257049,"projectId":8858414,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your continued support.
