The thermometers are easy to use and accurate. They also used the molecular model kits to build complex molecules like caffeine, TNT, and sucrose. Using the models and thermometers allowed us to make learning chemistry a lot more hands on. It's also a lot easier to understand molecules and chemical bonds when you're using tangible objects rather than just reading about it in a book.\r\nMy 6th grade students have been using the spectroscopes and the helium and nitrogen spectrum tubes to learn about astronomy. They had no idea that astronomers can learn the age and chemical composition of a star just by spreading the light in a spectroscope and analyzing the patterns of light. We looked at a bunch of different light sources and found the wavelengths of light emitted by each. \r\nMy 7th grade students used the soil test kits to analyze soil samples from different elevations in the woods around our school. They really liked using the chemical pills that changed color to indicate nutrient levels in the soil. They found that the higher elevation soils had less nutrients and more acidic pH. They did all the work themselves and felt like they were really doing science.\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials they were amazed that someone they never met would donate them to our school. They were also really excited to use them because they really like doing hands on activities in science.\r\nI'm going to keep using these materials for many years. Your contribution has made an immediate impact this year and will keep on benefiting my students for many years to come.
