When I first started this project, I had no idea I would be getting even more students than my roster stated. With so many different grade levels and needs in one classroom, it can be hard to accommodate everyone. Having individual work mats for my reading groups has made a huge difference!\r\n\r\nWith work mats, each student can follow along with the phonics lesson and it is easy for me to see which students are struggling and which ones need to be challenged. I can quickly push the higher achieving students and help the lower achieving students. They are far more engaged with their own work mats! Because my students have a variety of disabilities, individual education plan goals, and age groups, it was difficult before to find meaningful activities to support their learning and encourage their independence. Now that we have these activities, I can give each student a purposeful activity to truly meet them where they are and help them succeed.\r\n\r\nA particular reason that I really love these activities is that they give instant feedback. So much research has shown the vital importance of students getting timely feedback. When I can't work with each student at the same time, these activities allow them to check and see how they are doing and immediately know if they are correct.
