Practicing the skill by completing multiple steps/calculations is the key to solving complicated problems. In this digital age that importance hasn't stopped, just shifted. As a result the styluses that were donated were a great tool. They allow the students' laptops to become digital whiteboards making completing math problems so much easier. \r\n\r\nStill, even as we progress to more computer-based resources many students still prefer traditional materials such as the dry erase markers, lead pencils and mini-notebooks that were donated- students love working on the big whiteboard or small individual ones to show their thinking- especially when working in small groups with their peers. Your donation has made learning visible and fun (in a subject where fun is usually not a word used!) We greatly appreciate your donation providing us with needed supplies to make math lessons successful.\r\n\r\nWe are also looking forward to building up our academic interventions to help meet students where they are in math. This includes resources such as the iready learning platform where students can listen and complete individualized lessons. Our new curriculum also has review lessons and games that students can watch/play on their computers. For these to be successful the headphones donated have been crucial. It's allowed multiple different groups to work on different things in the classroom at the same time. Thank you for that. \r\n\r\nAs classrooms continue to shift to meet the needs of a new generation of students your generosity has allowed me to facilitate the shift in a productive way.","fullyFundedDate":1756000034497,"projectUrl":"project/middle-school-math-kits/9582238/","projectTitle":"Middle School Math Kits","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hagler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7752327_orig.jpg?crop=465,465,x0,y116&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1612565714906","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7752327"},{"teacherId":9359394,"projectId":9267982,"letterContent":"When our students first saw the new materials, their faces lit up with excitement and pride. We used the resources to decorate our space and create a beautiful \"grass wall,\" which added a fresh and welcoming aesthetic to our mediation room. To make it even more special, alumni wrote encouraging notes to our new mediators, letting them know how valued and appreciated their hard work is.\r\n\r\nThis project has truly transformed our space into a place that reflects the dedication and leadership of our students. They were touched to see a space created just for them—a space that honors their commitment to building a stronger and more supportive school community. Their reaction was filled with joy and a renewed sense of responsibility.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, our scholars will continue to strengthen their peer mediation skills. They recently participated in a two-day training retreat with NYCID, where they learned strategies to help their peers navigate conflict with empathy and respect. This newly decorated space will now serve as their hub for mediation sessions, ongoing training, and leadership development. Thanks to your support, we've created an environment that inspires and empowers them every day.","fullyFundedDate":1746786361706,"projectUrl":"project/peaceful-pathways-a-peaceful-space-for/9267982/","projectTitle":"Peaceful Pathways: A Peaceful Space for Student Dialogue & Growth","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ford","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9359394_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1701356506137","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9359394"},{"teacherId":9716973,"projectId":9675274,"letterContent":"My students and I have already put the new resources to good use in our classroom. And while we provide them with both breakfast and lunch, an afternoon snack goes a long way. Additionally, let's be honest, the meals that are provided aren't necessarily the tastiest so sometimes students rely on snacks to sustain them. Thank you for helping provide those snacks. That little extra boost of energy has helped improve engagement and focus.\r\n\r\nBecause the snacks you donated are a part of our Core Value store, students are incentivized to follow our core values of Citizenship, Responsibility, Relentless Pursuit, Respect and Optimism. As a result we've seen an increase in points and a decrease in behavioral referrals. This has helped them become better members of our community. Students are so eager to earn scholar dollars on the PBIS app. It also helps those students who don't have the money to buy snacks at the regular store like their peers so they don't feel left out. There have been so many benefits to our school community from your donation. We can't thank you enough! I find it so humbling that you thought it was a worthwhile cause.","fullyFundedDate":1746698848042,"projectUrl":"project/hungry-children-cant-learn-help-provid/9285232/","projectTitle":"Hungry Children Can't Learn! This makes my classrooms diverse, interesting and admittedly challenging at times. However, my struggles teaching students who speak another language are NOTHING compared to what the students go through! Entering a new school, in a new country while not even speaking the language is intimidating. My goal with this project was to help ease that transition in any way I could.\r\n\r\nThrough your donations I was able to give my Spanish-speaking students access to some of the same texts they see their peers read everyday. This helped them feel less isolated and segregated. Additionally, i think every student should experience the joy of reading! Watching students who were previously withdrawn light up when they received these books made my heart full. I may be a math teacher, but literacy effects all classrooms. \r\n\r\nI'm so happy I was able to create a mini-Spanish library and I hope to expand it in the future. One of my students finished 3 books in 1 week and has already asked for more. Another of my students wrote me a thank you note in Spanish on the last day of school and translated it into English. My mind was blown. Thank you again for making a difference in the lives of students like this.","fullyFundedDate":1746444721656,"projectUrl":"project/books-for-english-language-learners/9285272/","projectTitle":"Books for English Language Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hagler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7752327_orig.jpg?crop=465,465,x0,y116&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1612565714906","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7752327"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_103763","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":227,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":92,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":68,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":7,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"9.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.3,"schoolId":103763,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about New Heights Middle School 722 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"New Heights Middle School 722","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/new-heights-middle-school722/103763"}
