The students were able to help develop a plan to put the many pieces together to create our beautiful shed. \r\nWhen the shed arrived it was a little overwhelming to think that all of theses pieces would become something that we would be able to use for all of our sports equipment. After reviewing the directions we were able to develop a building plan to complete the shed. We all worked as part of a team to build the individual walls and then get them all screwed and drilled together.\r\nAfter we had completed the 4 walls and roof it was decided that we needed to reinforce the floor so that our equipment would get not wet. We painted floor boards so that the shed would be more waterproof than it already was. The group also decided to caulk the edges of the walls and the roof. This will keep our equipment safe from the outside elements.\r\nAll of our equipment is now stored safely, securely and out of the elements!!","fullyFundedDate":1755696814171,"projectUrl":"project/special-needs-students-need-safe-secure/9570998/","projectTitle":"Special Needs Students Need Safe, Secure Storage for Sports Equipment","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kearns","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9567055"},{"teacherId":7657033,"projectId":9041975,"letterContent":"The class has enjoyed the items from our \"Voc Arts Vending\" enterprise. Our cash box helps us keep the money organized and the black money bag is helpful for transport in making change. \r\n Our students have a work schedule each week. They open and close our store, communicate with customers, fulfill orders, check on-line ordering status, make deliveries, take inventory, and restock when needed. The black carousel and key chains is a vocational job for students to sort by color and assemble. \r\n It is only the 2nd year of this unique program and we are charting our own path with operating a business. We have trialed all the items with our individual students and they can select their preferences. Making choices and holding objects are some goals they work on and it helps to offer desirable items they want to hold. They embraced the new items with wonder and awe. The pictures show their enjoyment. Most students are nonverbal, but smiles are universal. We have experimented with grasping different objects, tracking eye movements to lights, sounds, the feel of movement, as well as cause and effect relationships.
