When our students first received the specialized origami paper, their excitement was palpable. Their eyes lit up with wonder as they realized they could create intricate, three-dimensional representations of a butterfly's life cycle through the delicate art of paper folding.\r\n\r\nDuring our science unit, students meticulously crafted each stage of the butterfly's transformation - from tiny egg to caterpillar, chrysalis, and finally, the magnificent adult butterfly. This hands-on project not only deepened their understanding of biological processes but also developed their fine motor skills and patience. Each carefully folded paper segment became a testament to their growing scientific knowledge and artistic skill. The project's next phase involves students presenting their origami butterfly life cycles to younger grade levels, sharing their newfound expertise, and inspiring a love for both science and art.","fullyFundedDate":1704939019755,"projectUrl":"project/the-art-of-paper-perseverance/8051161/","projectTitle":"The Art of Paper Perseverance","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brooks","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8075433_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1700446704960","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8075433"},{"teacherId":3211596,"projectId":9225655,"letterContent":"Thank you to the great opportunities you just gave my students by donating these books to our classroom library. Lots of reading skills such as learning about theme, main idea, characters, problem and solution, will be incorporated into many lessons that tie into the books we have received. An example is the classic \"The Giant Jam Sandwich.\" This is one of my absolute favorites stories from when I was in Elementary. Many reading skills can be introduced using this fabulous story from the town of \"Itching Down\". I introduce the skill of beginning, middle, end, also problem & solution. \r\n Reading (Language Arts) time in my classroom is introduced with a good story with lots of pictures. We pause and discuss the story and predict, then I have students discuss with each other different parts of the story. Afterwards, students will draw their own pictures from the story to retell using their own words. Some students also use puppets to retell with their friends at the rug. \r\n A students' favorite time is when they can connect the story with a video of the story from Reading Rainbow videos. I pop popcorn for the students and we enjoy watching the video version of the book on Reading Rainbow.
