Many of the classrooms in our school are still using just whiteboards and projectors. Last year the school was able to purchase a Promethean Board for my classroom, but I wasn't able to mount it anywhere in my room on the walls due to them being filled with cabinets (my room was supposed to be a science prep room originally, not a classroom). The school said they could not purchase a rolling cart for the Smart Board, and suggested I try Donor's Choose. I was happily surprised when the project was funded, as it was a very niche item I needed. \r\n\r\nHaving a Smart Board has made a big difference in the classroom. When I teach, I am able to write on the board, which may seem like a small thing, but previous to having the board, I had to either only project slides on the projector or write everything on the whiteboard. Now I can create slides and interact with them using the Smart Board. This is especially helpful in math, when we work with shapes and graphing. It's hard to show how to graph on a whiteboard. Additionally, students who are doing presentations can now interact with the board as well, or I can have students come up and do example problems on the Smart Board. The rolling whiteboard has made a world of difference in PE. Recently we were able to use it for our pickleball unit. The systems and processes were able to move seamlessly. These supplies have not only been greatly appreciated this year, but will be used for years to come in my classroom. Since the materials have arrived, we have been studying genetics and body systems in Biology class. When we were studying genetics, we studied the CRISPR technology and students made propaganda posters either supporting or rejecting the use of CRISPR for specific purposes. When creating these posters, students used the sharpies, markers, and paper that you donated. These supplies made their posters much better than they would have been. Students were very excited about the sharpies, and students are always coming into my classroom to borrow sharpies. During our study of body systems, we made models of the respiratory system using the supplies from your donation, and most students answered the test question about the parts of the respiratory system correctly. \r\n\r\nNot only have I used the supplies you donated in my Biology class, but I have been able to use them in my Pre-Algebra and Art classes as well. In Pre-Algebra, it was super helpful to have the ability to laminate things. I laminated papers for students to use to model equations while using manipulatives. In art, we have been using the hot glue to create paper mache animals, an art and science collaboration. \r\n\r\nI have planned several projects into my Biology curriculum for next year to use the materials, in which students will make cell models as well as photosynthesis/cellular respiration models. In addition, I plan to have more choice projects where students can choose to represent their learning in a 3-dimensional way. This would not be possible without your generous donation of supplies.
