One of the 6th graders is on volume 55 and is diligently checking out 2 new volumes a week and is trucking through the series! Another 6th grader checked out 10 volumes at once, then returned them one by one as he finished each one. It took up all his backpack space!!\r\n\r\nOne of my students has an injury that prevented him from participating in gym class for the last month and he generously helped me barcode and sticker genre label the ENTIRE series! Students at MS936 have been loving Haikyu especially because we have a school volleyball team! A couple more are still working their way through it!\r\n\r\nSpy X Family is seeing a new resurgence because the anime has a new season coming out! As of this writing, we only have one volume in the shelf, and quite a few of the volumes have a holds list. Our school is 71% Hispanic/Latino as of last year's data, and a majority of those students speak Spanish at home. We also have a brand new Spanish language program at our school this year that a majority of our students are enrolled in, so this project reaches almost every single one of our students.\r\n\r\nThis month, I have been hosting \"book tastings,\" where students come to the library with their English Language Arts class to spend 5 minutes sampling and rating three to four books of different genres. By including Spanish books, especially graphic novels, into the mix, students' cultures and languages were honored. This also allowed many of our emergent level English as a New Language students to be included in this activity. After seeing every ELA class, my display of our new Spanish books was left with just THREE books!
