Students have been using their sketchbooks to plan art projects, take notes, and experiment with ideas. I've noticed a remarkable boost in their confidence and creativity this year thanks to this valuable resource.\r\n\r\nThe white folders have also helped students stay organized and keep their notes safe. They're documenting their growth and skill development more effectively, and these materials have truly motivated them to stay on track and find information quickly. I plan to continue this organizational strategy in future years—it has been such a success.\r\n\r\nThese supplemental materials have also made this year much smoother, especially as I prepare for maternity leave. My long-term substitute will easily be able to follow and continue this system with students.\r\n\r\nIt's been wonderful to see students personalize their sketchbooks and express themselves through their covers—they've really made them their own. Having sketchbooks readily available has also made a big difference for students who join the class later in the year; they feel welcomed and supported from the start.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead to our third quarter, we're excited to use the Canary knives for a sculptural project where students will create masks and piñatas. These tools will be put to great use while maintaining a strong focus on safety. Students will be better equipped to work with cardboard thanks to the safe design of these knives.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity and continued support. Instead of simply reading about cell structures, DNA models, or organs in a textbook, students can now design and print their own models to study and explore. This technology has made complex topics more accessible and engaging, giving students the chance to interact with the material in a way that deepens their understanding and sparks their curiosity. Many of my students who once struggled to connect with traditional lessons now find themselves actively involved in the learning process.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most is the creativity and ownership they feel when using the 3D printer. They love being able to design and build their own projects, from printing models of bacteria to creating prosthetic-like designs that connect biology to the real world. Several students who are passionate about STEM have truly embraced this tool, staying after class to refine their designs and even teaching their peers how to use the software. For some, this has opened the door to thinking about careers in science, medicine, and engineering. As a Title I high school, many of our students don't often have access to creative, hands-on tools like these, especially expensive sets based on famous artwork like Starry Night by Van Gogh. The LEGO wall has opened up a whole new world of possibilities—students are using it not only to build and create, but to problem-solve, collaborate, and bring STEM concepts to life in new ways.\r\n\r\nThis isn't just play—it's meaningful learning. Right now, our Health students are working on a project that challenges them to design and prototype small LEGO vehicles (no motors required) that can roll down a ramp and \"rescue\" an \"injured\" LEGO figure at the bottom by safely transporting it back to the top. The goal is to think like paramedics, engineers, and problem-solvers. It's been incredible to see their confidence and creativity grow through this process.\r\n\r\nWe hope this update shows just how powerful your contribution and impact truly is. Because of your kindness, our Biology students now have access to a 3D printer — and the excitement hasn't stopped since it arrived.\r\n\r\nWhile many people are familiar with 3D printing in general, using it in the classroom is a game-changer for hands-on science education. It allows my students to bring complex biological concepts to life in ways that simply aren't possible through textbooks or videos. They've already printed cell models, DNA strands, and skeletal structures — and we're just getting started!\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students the most is the ability to create rather than just observe. There's something magical about designing a model on the computer and watching it materialize before their eyes. It turns abstract ideas into tangible objects, which helps with understanding and memory retention, especially for visual and kinesthetic learners.\r\n\r\nOne of my students, who often struggles with traditional assignments, has absolutely flourished with this new tool. She took the initiative to design a cross-section of a plant cell and presented it to the class like a pro.
