Your donation purchased books that supported our classroom in three distinct ways. The high interest graphic novels help emergent readers get hooked on books, and it helps Spanish language learners to read 'chapter books' but with picture support to support them with understanding new vocabulary. \r\nThe bilingual books on famous leaders helped students with research projects we do at the beginning of every year. Students study, take notes, prepare a presentation, and present to both the 5th grade class and power grades. This builds public speaking skills and confidence as well as school wide knowledge a about the leader.\r\nFinally, there were books about the experience of a young girl who immigrated to the United States when she was a baby, and is talking to her community to build an understanding of her identity as an American and a Dominican.
