The clipboards have allowed them to comfortably record their observations (we focus on using each of the senses with our K-2 students) and reflect on the changes they witness throughout the seasons. Right now we are comparing the garden, just waking up from the winter now, to the way it was in the fall! By being able to do this work outside, students can directly connect their classroom learning with the natural world around them, which deepens their understanding and fosters a sense of curiosity about the environment. The kids are able to use the crayons and pencils to complete garden-related worksheets, draw their observations and create beautiful pieces of art inspired by the garden's flora and fauna. These activities not only strengthen their artistic skills but also encourage them to think critically about the environment. So many questions and ideas arise from sharing their artwork with me and each other! We are incredibly grateful for your generosity and the positive influence it has had on our garden program. Thank you for supporting our students and helping us nurture a love of learning and nature.","fullyFundedDate":1734099479507,"projectUrl":"project/tools-for-observations-and-creativity-in/8986424/","projectTitle":"Tools for Observations and Creativity in Our Garden Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Eleyna","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9495860_orig.jpg?crop=1359,1359,x330,y105&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733252863685","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9495860"},{"teacherId":9495860,"projectId":8921841,"letterContent":"My students had a BLAST unwrapping those mixing bowls and figuring out all the different configurations of lids (\"so we can be fancy!\"). They sparked so many new ideas for what we should cook together next. A few students are particularly excited about the possibility of grating potatoes with the grater lids to make tater tots. So far the biggest hit with those bowls has been guacamole. We split the kids up into teams to chop the different fruits and vegetables (onion team, tomato team, avocado team, cilantro team, etc.) and having this set of mixing bowls to hold all the ingredients made it so much easier for each station to work independently. We made a pretty simple guac in the big bowl, and then each student got their own small cup of guac to spice they way they like it best. Tajin is a class favorite for sure, and we are slowly building comfort with more complex spices like cumin, cayenne, and paprika. Many of my students don't often have the opportunity to cook at home, but over the course of the year they have been able to become more and more independent in our classroom kitchen and some have reported taking their new skills home to share with their families. These materials have made such an impact on student agency, and we are all so grateful!","fullyFundedDate":1734207404606,"projectUrl":"project/cooking-for-empowerment-equipping-stude/8921841/","projectTitle":"Cooking for Empowerment: Equipping Students With Agency in the Kitchen","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Eleyna","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9495860_orig.jpg?crop=1359,1359,x330,y105&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733252863685","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9495860"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_60855","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":334,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":86,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":63.4,"schoolId":60855,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Morgan Community School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Morgan Community School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/holyoke-public-school-district/morgan-elementary-school/60855"}
