Students are not only practicing important literacy skills but also connecting to the story in a personal and relatable way.\r\n\r\nReading Ground Zero has opened the door to conversations about history, resilience, and empathy. Many students who normally struggle to stay engaged during reading activities are excited to turn the page and see what happens next. These books don't go home with students since it is read in class, but naturally over time, their use damages the books.\r\n\r\nThis is a powerful story that shows a different perspective than some of our students. This is a key standard in Minnesota English Language Arts curriculum, and our department strives to do our best to showcase as many perspectives as we can.
