The snacks provided have gone a long way in feeding hungry bellies so that students can focus in class. \r\n\r\nThe students were so excited to see all of the wonderful gifts we received. With each new box we have opened they have been excited to see what new snacks have. Many have tried snacks they haven't had before and found new favorites. \r\n\r\nIn the past few months since this donation, students have been able to get a snack as needed and then settle in to their lessons. Junji Ito is an especially popular Manga artist, whose work is widely known by students. Though we read much of Mary Shelley's original Frankenstein for our unit, students enjoyed seeing how a modern-day artist reimagined this classic text.\r\n\r\nThis supplemental text made our unit more engaging and accessible for my students. Mary Shelley's elevated syntax and vocabulary made comprehension a challenge for many, but an additional reading of Junji Ito's text ensured that students were always well-informed about the plot. The illustrations also became a frequent focus of analysis as we compared Mary Shelley's written descriptions to Junji Ito's illustrations.\r\n\r\nThis text also gave students a sense of accomplishment, as they could read many pages within a class period. While we might have only been able to read 15 pages of Mary Shelley's text in a class period, students could read over 60 pages from Junji Ito's edition. Students gained confidence with this text, and I look forward to using it again in future classes.","fullyFundedDate":1761935422251,"projectUrl":"project/frankenstein-manga/9718627/","projectTitle":"Frankenstein Manga","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Blevins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9354518_orig.jpg?crop=1932,1932,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1701215744952","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9354518"},{"teacherId":2527903,"projectId":9648355,"letterContent":"This past fall, the addition of three lab aid kits significantly enhanced student learning by transforming abstract biological concepts into meaningful, hands-on experiences. The molecule kit allowed students to build carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids, giving them a concrete way to visualize molecular structures. Students were especially engaged when comparing different sugar structures, which helped deepen their understanding of how small structural differences can lead to very different biological functions. Being able to physically construct these molecules increased both comprehension and enthusiasm for the content.\r\nThe cellular respiration lab kit was equally impactful, as it allowed students to observe the reversible roles of oxygen and carbon dioxide during respiration. Seeing these processes in action helped students move beyond memorization and truly grasp how energy production works at the cellular level. Many students commented on how this lab clarified concepts they had previously found confusing, and it sparked thoughtful discussions about how respiration connects to overall human health and metabolism.\r\nFinally, the osmosis and diffusion lab—modeled after dialysis—made a particularly strong impression on students by connecting biology to real-world medical applications. Observing how diffusion across a membrane can replicate the principles behind dialysis helped students understand how this process supports people with kidney failure. This lab not only reinforced key scientific concepts but also fostered empathy and curiosity about biomedical science. Overall, these lab aid kits made learning more engaging, relevant, and impactful, leaving a lasting impression on students throughout the semester.","fullyFundedDate":1757033659894,"projectUrl":"project/science-in-action-hands-on-biology-labs/9648355/","projectTitle":"Science in Action: Hands-On Biology Labs","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bender","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2527903"},{"teacherId":9383563,"projectId":9495463,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support in providing cleaning supplies for our art classroom!
